A Warrior's Second Chance (Faye and Alexander) novel Chapter 649

Chapter 625

SILVERTHORN PACK

THIRD POV

Seraphine stood in the garden, staring at the plant in front of her.

She had tended to it with her own hands for decades. She had planted it herself and watched it grow through countless seasons. She knew exactly how it was supposed to look, from the shape of its leaves to the colour of its flowers.

But she barely recognized it now.

The leaves had been curling for days now, their once vibrant colour fading into a dull, unhealthy shade. Several of them had already fallen around the base of the plant, and the flower at the centre looked as though it had been drained of its life.

Seraphine stepped closer.

She reached out and gently touched one of the leaves.

Something was wrong… She could feel it.

Her fingers remained against the leaf for another moment before she slowly moved her hand

to the stem.

The connection came almost immediately.

Her expression changed.

For years,

she had used the bond she had created with the plant to know that her daughter was alive. It had always been faint, barely noticeable unless she deliberately reached for it.

This time, however, there was no mistaking what she felt.

Weakness.

Pain. A life force that was fading far too quickly.

Seraphine’s fingers tightened around the stem.

“What is happening to you, Helen?”

She closed her eyes and reached deeper into the connection.

Her daughter’s presence was still there, but it was weak. Much weaker than it should have

been.

Seraphine opened her eyes.

“No. It can’t be.”

Claws

The words escaped quietly. She looked at the flower again, as though the sight of it might somehow change.

It didn’t.

A dark substance she hadn’t noticed before slowly appeared between the petals.

Seraphine frowned as she leaned closer.

The liquid gathered at the edge of the flower before sliding down one of the petals.

It was black.

She stared at it. Her hand moved toward the flower almost instinctively, and she touched the liquid with the tip of her finger.

A sharp pulse of magic travelled through her.

Seraphine immediately pulled her hand back. Her eyes remained fixed on the black stain on her finger.

This wasn’t ordinary. Something had happened to Helen… Something powerful enough to affect the bond between them.

Seraphine’s breathing became slower as she tried to make sense of what she had felt.

Her daughter was dying… Seraphine had known that the moment she touched the plant. She looked down at the flower, her expression hardening.

She shook her head. She refused to accept it.

Not yet.

“It isn’t time.”

She said it quietly, almost as though she were reminding herself of something she already

knew.

“It is not your time yet.”

She straightened and looked toward the edge of the garden.

For years, she had allowed her daughter to live the life she had chosen. She had stayed away because Helen had made it clear that she wanted nothing to do with the family she had left

behind.

Seraphine had respected that decision. But this was different.

BLOOD CRESCENT

FAYE

I found Alexander in the office exactly where I expected him to be. He was seated behind his desk with his phone against his ear. I didn’t bother announcing myself. Instead, I walked straight toward him.

He glanced up when I reached the desk, and I smiled before walking around it and settling myself on his lap, straddling him.

There was a brief pause on the other end of the call. Alexander looked at me, then back at the papers in front of him.

“Yes, I’ll get back to you about that,” he said before ending the call.

He placed his phone on the desk and looked at me again. “What are you up to?”

I shrugged casually. “I just want to exercise my rights before I leave tomorrow.”

His eyebrows lifted slightly. “Your rights?”

“Yes.” I shifted comfortably on his lap. “I’m not letting you hide in this office away from me all

night.”

The corner of his mouth lifted. “I wasn’t hiding.”

“You were sitting alone in your office at night as always,” I said slowly.

“I was working.”

I rolled my eyes. “Whatever you say… It’s all the same to me.”

He gave me an amused look but didn’t argue. I glanced at the phone sitting on the desk and asked, “Who was that on the phone?”

“Cole,” Alexander said.

Was it important?”

“Nothing that can’t wait until tomorrow,” Alexander said.

I nodded and rested my hands against his shoulders. “What were you discussing?”

Clar

“Ambrose,” Alexander said. “I’ve decided to let him and his family stay here. I’ve already had accommodation allocated to them.”

He paused for a minute before he continued.

“They’ll move out of the guest room tomorrow and into the quarters that have been assigned

to them.”

I nodded. “That’s probably better. They’ll be more comfortable that way,” I said.
