Chapter 635
Chapter 635
BLOOD CRESCENT
ALEXANDER
I was still awake in my chambers when my phone rang. I glanced at the screen and saw Cole’s name. It was late enough that I wasn’t expecting anyone to call me unless it was important… I
answered.
“Are you still awake?” Cole asked.
I frowned slightly at the question. “Yes. Why?”
“I’m coming over to your chambers,” Cole explained.
I sat up a little straighter. “Is there a problem?”
genuinely assumed he was calling because something had happened within the pack. There was always the possibility that someone had discovered something or that a situation required my
attention.
“No,” Cole replied casually. “I’m bringing you something.”
I stared at my phone for a moment. “What are you bringing me?”
“You’ll see,” Cole answered.
I sighed. “Fine.”
The call ended, and I barely had time to put my phone down before I heard a knock on my door.
I looked toward it and shook my head. Cole had either been on his way here before he called me or had already been standing outside my chambers when he decided to ask if I was awake. Knowing him, neither possibility surprised me.
I stood and walked toward the door. When I opened it, I found Cole standing there with bottles of beer in his hands.
He lifted one of the bottles slightly and asked, “Are you going to let me in or not?”
I shook my head, stepped aside, and allowed him to walk in. I closed the door behind him.
Cole handed one of the bottles to me before walking farther into the room and taking a seat on the
couch. He settled comfortably into the cushions, opened his own bottle, and took a drink.
I looked down at the bottle in my hand before shaking my head. “I’m not drinking.”

Cole glanced at me with a bored expression. “Then why are you still holding it?”
Hooked at him. “What are you even doing here, Cole?”
“I wasn’t feeling like sleeping,” he replied. He took another drink before continuing. “I figured you were probably still awake too. Since Faye isn’t here, I thought we could keep each other company.”
I raised an eyebrow.
Cole looked at me and added casually, “As two lonely men.”
I couldn’t help laughing quietly.
Cole looked satisfied with himself.
I walked over and sat down on the other side of the couch, still holding the bottle he had given me.
“You are a terrible influence,” I told him.
“I’ve been told,” Cole replied.
“You already know why I don’t like taking this. Yet every time I do drink, it’s with me,” I said.
I glanced at him and shook my head.
He reached over and casually pulled the bottle from my hand. “There. Problem solved.”
I laughed under my breath as he placed the bottle closer to himself.
“You really are terrible,” I said.
“I prefer to think of myself as supportive,” Cole replied. “I’m just trying to keep you company.”
“That isn’t the word I would use,” I said.
Cole ignored me and took another drink.
I leaned back into the couch and picked up my phone. There were several people I had contacted earlier regarding my mother’s situation, and I had been waiting for responses. I opened my messages first and checked for anything new.
There was nothing.
I checked my sss, but there was still nothing.
I refreshed the page before checking again, but there was no response.
I locked the screen and lowered my phone. For a few seconds, I simply stared ahead.
Cole didn’t say anything. He seemed perfectly content to sit there with his beer and enjoy the

silence.
looked down at my hands.
There was something I needed to tell him.
I had considered telling him earlier, but there had never been the right moment. Now, sitting there
in the quiet of my chambers, I found myself wondering why I had been hesitating.
Cole was one of the few people who deserved to know if Helen was dying.
I remained silent for another moment before finally speaking.
“I want to tell you something.”
Cole looked at me and nodded. “Okay.”
He lowered his bottle and placed it on the table in front of him.
I took a slow breath.
“Mom is sick.”
The casual expression disappeared from Cole’s face almost immediately.
“What happened?” he asked. His voice was different now, concerned.
“How long has she been sick?” Cole asked.
I looked at him. “It’s been a while. She just didn’t tell me.”
Cole’s expression tightened. “That sounds like something Helen would do.”
I didn’t respond to that.
He studied me for a moment before asking, “But you still haven’t told me what kind of sickness it is. How bad is it?”
I looked up.
“It’s not a normal illness,” I said.
Cole waited.
I forced myself to continue.
“It has to do with dark magic.”
His expression changed. “Dark magic?” Cole repeated.
