“Tell me something, when you asked me to stay in the human world. I told you I cannot because I am not fit,” I told Sawyer.

At first, he pouted as if I’d insulted him, so I decided to explain.

“I mean, think about it. You have a wolf too, right? And yours is an even bigger monster. That’s why they put you in here in the first place.”

Sawyer’s eyes widened, and I could almost see my plan finally clicking into place in his head.

We were two very unlucky kids whose parents had thrown them into this madhouse, where we were both being secretly treated.

My wolf had been exposed to far too much wolfsbane and silver during my sister’s attack, which meant there was a chance it could mutate.

Sometimes, I could even hear it, as though it had already awakened somewhere inside me.

“Yeah, but you know they’re giving me medicine,” Sawyer pointed out.

That answer alone told me how badly he wanted to get out of this hellhole with me.

He wanted to go back to where we belonged.

“Come on, Sawyer. That’s exactly what we need to figure out. If somehow we both escape from here, I’ll still have my wolf, and you’ll still have yours. Once we get out of here, we can learn to control them ourselves. We can talk to our wolves. I’ve heard people can speak to theirs and convince them to listen. We’ll just tell ours to stop acting like monsters and behave themselves.”

I folded my arms across my chest, determined.

I had seen enough to know that our worlds were different was different. Living in the werewolf land would be much better for us than staying here. I had power there.

Sawyer’s parents had power here, but he hated them. He always said they used him and that they weren’t good people.
