Chapter 641 Cooking Class Disaster
Lucas thought she only wanted to cook out of boredom. He blamed himself for keeping her by his side without finding fun things to keep her occupied.
“Do you like horse racing? Or car racing? Amusement parks? Shopping…”
“No, none of those interest me.”
“Then what do you feel like doing…”
“Quit worrying about it.”
She was extremely stubborn. The more something seemed hard, the more determined she was to pull it off.
She’d set her mind on mastering cooking no matter what.
Noticing the stubborn fire burning bright in her eyes, Lucas asked, “If you really want to learn to cook… how about I sign you up for a crash cooking course?”
She spun around instantly, “There’s such a thing?”
“Yep. They teach basic dishes. What kind of food do you want to make?”
“Just simple stuff.
“Enough to fill my stomach.”
“A three–day crash course will suit you.”
“Sign me up right now!”
Once she set her mind to something, she acted at once. She was determined to get this right.
Lucas had no choice but to book a spot in the crash cooking class for her.
He figured with an instructor watching over her, she couldn’t possibly blow up another kitchen.
It was rare to see her passionate about anything, so he couldn’t bring himself to stop her.
The next morning, Tammy got up bright and early and headed out full of excitement.
Lucas still felt uneasy, “Do you want me to come along with you…”
“No need! I can handle this alone! Stay home and rest!”
Tammy marched out with full confidence.
The training venue was nearby, so she walked there on foot.
Quite a few people had signed up for the basic cooking crash course, most of them housewives eager to learn simple home–cooked meals.
Tammy easily stood out from the crowd.
She’d worn a formal long black dress and fixed up her appearance perfectly, treating the class as a serious event.
She looked like she was heading to a formal conference rather than a cooking lesson.
All the other students kept glancing over at her out of curiosity.
Even the instructor at the front found it odd and walked down to ask her, “Miss, have you come to the wrong place?”
“Nope. I’m here to learn how to cook.”
“Are you certain?”
“Absolutely. I’m sure I’ll be good at it.”
Relieved, the instructor returned to start the lesson.
She handed every student a few potatoes.
“Let’s start with an easy dish: Butter–Fried Potatoes. It’s a popular home meal and simple to make. Follow my steps one by one. Grab your potato and peel it first…”
Tammy gripped her potato, her gaze deadly serious as she followed every instruction exactly- washing, peeling, slicing.
The sharp kitchen knife moved like an extension of her hand.
Swish swish swish.
So quick it left a blur, and before anyone could blink, a miniature mountain of perfectly uniform potato cubes sat atop the cutting board.
Each piece identical in size.
The people beside her stared in shock.
Even the instructor up front was stunned. With knife skills this good, why was she taking a beginner’s class?
Once she finished cutting, Tammy finished with one clean movement and let out a long breath.
She turned to find every single person staring at her,
looking at her like she was some kind of misfit.
The instructor hurried down to stand behind her, picked up one of her potato cubes, and studied it with a complicated expression.
Her cutting was even better than the instructor’s own.
“Tammy, are you positive you’ve never learned cooking before?”
Tammy shook her head, “Otherwise why would I be here?”
The instructor realized he’d asked a silly question and grew awkward, “Your knife work is incredible.”
She replied with modest understatement, “I’ve spent lots of time skinning and deboning things. Practice makes perfect.”
Catching the instructor’s horrified look, she quickly added an explanation, “My family runs a pig farm. I butcher pigs, yeah, lots of pigs over the years.”
The instructor relaxed and praised her, “You’d never guess you work on a pig farm from how you’re dressed. Alright, let’s move on to seasoning…”
The lesson carried on.
It didn’t take long for the instructor to figure out why someone with elite knife skills needed a basic home cooking course.
“Fire! The pan’s on fire!”
He finally understood how Tammy had caused such massive destruction.
Apart from her flawless knife skills, everything afterward was an unmitigated disaster.
She was far too headstrong. On the surface, she listened intently while chopping vegetables and measuring seasonings, yet she’d sneak in an extra pat of butter, a dash of black pepper, or a spoonful of white wine when no one was looking.
She’d somehow turned ordinary cooking ingredients into an explosive concoction.
He felt equal parts helpless and amused.
Yet a strange thought lingered in his mind.
Why had Tammy suddenly become so obsessed with cooking? It was as if she was forcing herself to accomplish an impossible task.
He tried pressing her for answers, but as expected, Tammy refused to explain a thing.
Blowing up two kitchens in a row dealt a heavy blow to Tammy’s confidence. She even picked up her phone and broke down crying to Tatiana.
Tatiana heard her soft sniffling the second she answered the call, “What’s wrong?”
“Tatiana, am I useless?”
“Of course you’re not. You’ve fought off wolves and bears–why doubt yourself?”
“Then why can’t I even cook a simple meal? Watching you cook looks so easy and delicious. Meanwhile I’ve wrecked two kitchens.”
“Did you get hurt?”
Tatiana’s tone tightened instantly, her first priority checking for injuries.
“I’m fine, I jumped out of the way fast enough.”
After Tammy recounted everything, Tatiana couldn’t hold back her laughter.
“Stop laughing!”
“Why did you suddenly want to cook anyway? Who are you making food for?”
“Tatiana, do you remember the ritual back on our island?”
Tatiana fell silent for a beat, instantly grasping what Tammy intended to do.
“Did the doctor give bad news?”
“Yeah… the odds aren’t good.”
Tammy had taken Lucas to see a specialist not long ago, and the prognosis was grim.
That was why she’d been so stubborn about learning to cook herself.
In their island traditions, preparing a full meal meant sending a loved one off for the last time.
Tatiana understood clearly and said, “Here’s what we’ll do. Gather all your ingredients tomorrow, and we’ll video call. I’ll walk you through every step.”
“Okay!”
