Scarlett didn't even pause before answering. "Yes. She matters more to me than either of you."
Vincent's temper flared. "Scarlett, you—"
But Scarlett remained ice-cold. "Vincent, I'm living for myself now. You have someone important to you. Vanessa has someone important to her. It's time I have someone important to me too."
Without another word, she ended the call.
As she set her phone down, Scarlett noticed Felix watching her. She met his gaze.
After a moment, Felix spoke up. "Ms. Theron, I don't have any further questions. I can take you to Damian's place now."
Scarlett shook her head. "That's alright. I'd like to walk around by myself for a bit."
Felix accepted her decision, though he added gently, "Okay. But please let Damian know where you are. If he doesn't hear from you, he really will turn the city upside down looking for you."
A faint smile touched Scarlett's lips. "I understand."
With that, Felix left first.
Scarlett stayed at the café a little longer, finishing what was left of her coffee before finally gathering her things and stepping outside.
Snow was falling, and the air was bitterly cold.
The wind stung her face like tiny blades, sharp and biting against her skin.
Still, she pulled her coat tighter and walked out.
Her leg hadn't fully healed yet, and she was nervous about slipping, so every step was careful and measured.
She made her way slowly toward the mall entrance, but just as she reached it, a tall figure strode directly toward her.
She glanced back and saw Vincent.
All the calm she'd felt earlier evaporated in an instant.
Vincent approached, his expression chilly. "Can we talk?"
Scarlett hesitated, not really in the mood for a conversation.
But after a brief pause, she agreed flatly, "Fine."
Vincent turned and started walking. "Follow me."
He moved quickly, not bothering to check if she was keeping up.
With her injured leg, Scarlett couldn't match his pace—and she didn't try to. She simply walked at her own speed.
In the past, she would've pushed through the pain to catch up.
Now, she only cared about what felt right for her.
Vincent got well ahead before noticing she wasn't behind him. He stopped and looked back, watching her move slowly across the pavement.
A flicker of impatience rose in him, but it faded just as fast.
He stood there in the middle of the mall, quietly waiting for Scarlett to reach him.
Scarlett wondered—was he still hoping for a second child?
But as she looked at him now, she felt nothing.
Once, she had liked him, loved him, looked up to him. Later, she resented him, blamed him. But in this moment, her heart was completely still.
There was no joy left, no hope—nothing.
Oakland Villa, their wedding home, meant nothing now. To him, it had always been just another piece of property.
Scarlett straightened in her chair, cradling the warm glass between her hands. The heat seeped into her palms as she glanced down, a quiet laugh escaping her. "Is that really all you wanted to talk about?"
Vincent's eyes stayed on her, his tone flat. "What do you want me to say?"
Scarlett didn't take the bait. Instead, she said plainly, "If you agree to the divorce, I'll drop the lawsuit. It'll save us both a lot of unnecessary trouble."
Vincent's eyes narrowed. "Have you really thought this through? You don't want me—or Vanessa—anymore?"
Scarlett couldn't help but laugh, though there was no humor in it. "Vincent, you two let me go first."
All those years she'd swallowed her pride, endured in silence, just to keep the family together—and now he made it sound like she was the one walking away.
How absurd.
Vincent just watched her in heavy silence, at a loss for words.
She held his gaze for what felt like a long time before finally saying, "Even now, you still believe I just fell and hurt my leg by accident, don't you?"
