Awakened Housewife Ignore Betrayer's Begs (Scarlett) novel Chapter 834

Damian stirred the pot of oatmeal with a spoon.

"It's ready. I'll dish you a bowl to taste."

"Okay," Scarlett replied, then stepped out into the living room.

As she settled onto the sofa, a pile of gifts by the window caught her eye. There was fresh fruit, high-calcium milk for older adults, jewelry, fine accessories—everything one could think of. The haul left her wide-eyed.

Damian carried the bowl of oatmeal over and set it on the dining table. She tilted her head in confusion.

"Did you buy all of this?"

"Yep."

"But the holiday gathering isn't until the second day of the break," Scarlett frowned.

Damian scratched the back of his neck, a little sheepish.

"This is just the start. There'll be even more then."

"You shouldn't spend so recklessly," Scarlett chided softly without thinking.

He sat down beside her and laced his fingers through hers.

"Spending on your family's never a waste to me."

Scarlett had no comeback to that, so she fell silent.

Just then, cheerful footsteps echoed down the staircase.

"Aunt! Mr. Langley! You're both awake!" Clara called out.

Scarlett glanced up.

"Mhm. Slow down, don't trip."

Clara practically sprinted down the stairs and threw her arms around Damian's legs the second she reached him.

"You promised you'd take me strawberry picking! Can we go today?"

Damian lifted her up and carried her over to the stack of gifts, nodding at one woven basket of berries.

"Look, I brought strawberries for you to try first."

Clara's smile faded instantly.

"That's cheating! You said we'd pick them ourselves. This store-bought kind doesn't count."

Damian laughed and ruffled her hair, his tone gentle.

"I didn't lie. These are just a sample for this morning. I'm taking your aunt dress shopping first, but once we finish this afternoon, we'll head straight to the patch together."

Clara brightened right away.

"Okay, I'll wait here for you two this afternoon!"

Damian held out his pinky finger to her.

Coats would be quick to pick out, so he took her to a high-end custom gown boutique first.

Other customers were browsing inside when they walked in.

Scarlett was instantly drawn to the racks of elegant dresses and didn't notice the other patrons were Vincent and Sabrina. The couple had come to try on their wedding gowns and suits ahead of their upcoming ceremony.

Scarlett was still searching for a style that suited her when Sabrina's voice carried over from across the shop.

"Vincent, what do you think of this as my main wedding dress?"

Vincent sat on a lounge sofa and barely glanced up, his tone cold and distant.

"It's fine."

His replies were always flat, detached, no warmth whatsoever.

The sound of Sabrina's voice snapped Scarlett out of her daze. She turned and spotted the pair.

Sabrina caught sight of Scarlett and Damian in the floor-length mirror. A flicker of tension crossed her face, but she brushed it off and spoke to the sales clerk.

"I'll try this one on."

She stepped into the spacious private fitting room at the back of the boutique.

Damian slipped his hand into Scarlett's and squeezed gently.

"C'mon, baby. I'll help you pick something perfect."
