"Click—"
The mechanical sound of the gun cocking was piercingly loud. Vincent's heart seized in his chest.
He shot Lennox a terrified look before quickly turning back to Cyril, his tone growing increasingly frantic. "If I die, Mr. Ravenshire will have a massive problem on his hands! I've served Dorian for ten years! Even if I haven't achieved greatness, I've poured my sweat and blood into his empire! You can't do this to me! Mr. Ravenshire would never allow it!"
Watching his prey struggle helplessly in the net, Cyril's smile deepened. "Those cigars on your desk look quite premium, Chief Montclair."
Cigars?
Vincent's eyes filled with dread as he looked down at the cigar box. Cyril would never bring up a useless topic for no reason.
"What do you mean?"
He couldn't connect the dots.
Cyril replied calmly, "Arya Tobacco production has sharply declined due to war. Arya Cigars are nearly impossible to find, regardless of how much money you have. As far as I know, Damien Whitmore is the only person in all of Athelvia who has an absolute obsession with them. He even spent a fortune buying up the entire global supply of Arya Tobacco."
Vincent's face drained of all color, his entire body trembling violently.
Those cigars were a bribe he had received after the bombing incident in Merriton City. He had never smoked cigars before; he had only developed the habit because those people had intentionally pushed them onto him.
Cyril spoke with measured slowness. "A loyal dog cannot serve two masters. Surely you understand that principle, Chief Montclair? Just as you said, you worked your fingers to the bone for my father for ten years. As long as you maintained Merriton City's prosperity, he was willing to turn a blind eye to your petty theft.
"But... your ambitions grew a little too vast. Knowing full well how treacherous my father's political battles in Congress are, you still chose to collude with the Whitmore family to sabotage the peace at the harbor..."
Vincent finally understood Cyril's endgame. He desperately interrupted, "Bullshit! You're framing me! I have absolutely no ties to the Whitmore family! I demand to see Dorian!"
Cyril gave a mock sigh of pity. "Unfortunately, my father no longer wishes to see you."
With that, Lennox gave a subtle nod to the massive enforcers behind him. Two men stepped forward, flanking Vincent on both sides.
Vincent backed away defensively, glaring fiercely at Cyril. "What are you doing? I am the Chief Director of Merriton City—"
Before he could finish, brutal punches slammed into both sides of his face simultaneously. Vincent shrieked in agony, but before he could even register the pain, a devastating blow hammered into his stomach.
