Chapter 360

Skittles POV

It was good catching up with dad, it’s been a long time, ten years, I think, too long, and he sounded too happy to hear from me, even if it was with sad news. Or not, depending on how you look at it.

I was more shocked at seeing my mother as the victim and so damaged, than upset that she was dead, and then, when my mind caught up. I pieced together that she might have had a bad ending. I felt sorry for her and shed tears for her sad ending. Then I had a good cry when Stinger arrived, not because I was sad that she was gone, but because I felt guilty because I was glad she was, that I wouldn’t have to look over my shoulder anymore, wondering if she was going to show up, that Stinger and I could live a life now. Storm won’t have the club at war.

I slept fairly well, not having bad dreams, as I had expected.

Sprocket had kept hold of me the whole night. I tried to move out of his arms to go to the bathroom, but his arm pulled me closer.

“Five more minutes.” He murmured in his sleepy husky voice.

“If you don’t want to get wet, I suggest you let me go to the bathroom, or you change and wash the sheets,” I whispered seductively back. His arms loosened around me, and I took off to the bathroom in haste. I couldn’t believe I could hold so much.

I went to the kitchen and made up our morning coffee, can’t start the day without it, and then checked the time, it was after eight, we slept in quite late for us. I picked up my phone and texted Stinger, letting him know that I spoke with dad and he would like to visit, and he had been to court to try and fight for us, when mum took us and lost.

I then sent a text to Storm, asking him for permission for Dad to come to our club and stay for a bit. I thought about the runs we had been on, and Mum had made sure we didn’t go on any that would meet up with other clubs; that was her way of keeping us away from Dad, I guess. But we didn’t know that, we thought Dad didn’t want us, and was cheating, I wonder now how much she

said was true.

“Making toast?” Sprocket asked as he came out of the bathroom, scratching his belly.

“Yes, what do you want on it?”

“Peanut butter.” He came and put his arms around me from behind, resting his head on my

shoulder.

“How did you sleep?” He asked, nuzzling my neck and nibbling my ear, making me squirm.

“Better than I had expected. I am glad she’s gone, that Stinger and I don’t have to look over our shoulders, but what good has come out of this? I got to speak to dad, and I get the feeling mum

has been lying to us all these years.” My phone pinged. I picked it up and read the message there.

“Storm said it was okay for us to have Dad here. I can’t wait to tell him.”

“Call him now.”

“No, let me get Stinger over, and we can do it together.” I picked up my phone and texted my

brother.

‘Need you, can you come over?”

Almost straight away, he replied.

‘On the way, put the kettle on.‘ I showed it to Sprocket, and he laughed, as happy as I was over his response. Sprocket took over, making more toast, and I made a coffee for my brother. He arrived before the toast even popped up. He knocked and walked in, worry on his face.

Sprocket handed him some toast, and I handed him a coffee.

“Come sit, and I will tell you why I need you here.” We sat and drank and ate, and I filled him in with my phone call to dad, and Storm’s approval of him visiting us.

“I thought you might like to be here when I call him and tell him he can come visit.”

“You bet, sis, I need to hear his voice. It’s been too long, and I agree, our dearest mother has been bullshitting us all this time.”

I do.

“Better let her know it’s now,” Stinger said, draining the last of his coffee.

Sprocket phoned Tempest, and they talked, and he laughed at something she said, and jealousy ran through me. Get a grip, girl. Tempest was married, and they have been friends longer than we have been together. It’s innocent. But my doubts floated to the surface, and the memory of being cheated on by someone she cared a lot about, and the shield around her heart hardened again.

I don’t want to be hurt like that again. I may not be able to go through it again.

Stinger left all glowing, excited that Dad was coming. He was older than me and had a different relationship; I was Daddy’s angel, while Stinger was his shadow. It broke both of us when we were taken away from someone who loved us. We knew that when we left, but over the years of mother’s toxic version, we began to doubt what we thought we knew. Now we will get his version of the story, and hopefully it’s a better one than we remember.

“Want to fix up the spare room for your Dad?” Sprocket asked, and I nearly melted right then and

there.

“You okay with him staying with us?” I asked, shocked that he would.

“Yep, and don’t worry, as long as the doors are closed, he won’t hear us at night. We have to stick to loving you in the bedroom, while he visits.” I blushed at the thought, but then was relieved that I didn’t have to worry about Dad hearing us in our room, the whole idea of him in the next room, listening to us enjoying each others company, was horrifying, as natural as it is to be a couple know you parent could hear, was not high on my bucket list of things, to cross off.

Together we put fresh sheets on the bed, towels, toothpaste, a new toothbrush, shampoo, and conditioner in his en–suite. Yes, both main bedrooms had their own bathrooms, and a separate bathroom with a bath (not just a shower) down the hallway.

I can’t wait for Dad to arrive. Have work tomorrow, but at least I can have today with him.

“Are you excited?” Sprocket asked softly, as we finished getting the room ready.

“Yes. I didn’t think mother would ever come to some good, and bring dad and us back together, but she’s rolling on the slab at the morgue, with the thought that her demise would bring the family back together again.
