"Being kicked out, having your legs broken..."
Juniper's red lips moved slightly, and she raised an eyebrow, speaking in a slow drawl, "Forget it, I guess I'll just marry you. I'm still counting on you to make money for me, after all."
If he was crippled, how was he supposed to earn a living?
"Deal."
Shanley held her tight, his voice dangerously seductive. "Your husband will make lots and lots of money. I promise to keep you thoroughly fed and satisfied."
"?"
She elbowed him in the ribs, a faint blush creeping onto her cheeks.
He had been completely shameless lately, saying whatever inappropriate thought popped into his head.
—
The nineteenth.
Just one day left until the wedding.
Hannah specifically called Theia to enforce the old custom.
The day before the wedding, the bride and groom were strictly forbidden from seeing each other.
Even though it was mostly superstition with no scientific backing, the elderly woman wanted nothing more than for the two of them to grow old together.
Naturally, she didn't want to risk any bad luck and insisted on following every tradition to a tee.
Because of this, Theia and Silas arrived at the Cloudscape Community bright and early to pick Juniper up.
Juniper, who had just woken up and still had messy hair: "?"
"Mr. Schwartz, Mrs. Schwartz's luggage is all packed."
Dana, the housekeeper, rolled the suitcase out.
Mrs. Schwartz?
Juniper's brain buzzed. How was she already Mrs. Schwartz?
They still had a whole day left.
"Thank you."
Shanley took the suitcase, pushed it over to Theia and Silas, and spoke with deep respect, "Mom, Dad, I'll have to trouble you to look after Juniper for the next two days."
"She's our daughter, it's no trouble at all." Theia smiled gently and pulled Juniper to her side. "Come on, sweetie, let's go home."
Juniper looked up at Shanley standing across from her, her lips pressed together, a slight frown forming between her brows.
Her gaze was subtly reproachful, as if to say: *Why are you giving me away?*
"What do you mean, 'huh'?" Theia dragged the suitcase with one hand and her husband with the other. "Don't ask questions, just walk."
Only the two of them were left in the living room.
Shanley smoothed down Juniper's hair and handed her a packed breakfast.
"If you crave anything, just tell me. Dana or I will make it and send it over."
"Mhm."
"If you can't sleep tonight, you can call me." He gently pinched her cheek. "But no video calls. We can't see each other's faces."
He had never believed in these 'superstitious rules' before, but he wanted to grow old with the love of his life so desperately that he was willing to believe anything.
"Don't keep Mom and Dad waiting." He pulled her into a tight embrace, breathing in her scent deeply. "I'll come pick you up first thing tomorrow morning."
She didn't say a word, just nuzzled deeper into his chest.
Then, she pushed him away.
She turned and walked out, as if she had finally made up her mind.
He followed her out, watching the family of three get into the car, strictly ordering Felton to drive them back safely.
As the car started, Juniper instinctively looked out the rear window. He was still standing exactly where she left him.
