Chapter 295

Third Person’s POV

“Mortimer, being buried alone under that snow was terrifying and hopeless. Being down here is the same, and I’m terrified that I’m waiting here to die alone all over again.”

“You won’t. I’m right here,” he said. “I’ll stay with you, so you won’t be alone.”

Seraphina could feel him fading. His physical endurance was shot, and he was on the verge of collapsing.

“Mortimer,” Seraphina said, her voice cracking as she began to cry.

“Yeah, I’m here.”

“Talk to me. Don’t make me wait in the dark by myself.”

“Okay. I promise.”

Seraphina remembered the stainless-steel bed next to them.

The injured man was still unconscious underneath it.

She carefully shifted out from beneath Mortimer’s weight, inching her way toward the table and feeling around in the pitch

black.

“Sera?”

“I’m looking for something to treat your wound.”

The chances were slim, but she remembered she hadn’t put away the medical supplies after patching up the unconscious man.

She hoped she might still be able to find some of them.

“Don’t worry about me. Just be careful.”

They were trapped in a tight space. They were lucky that a few of the steel beds had caught the falling rocks, but the pocket they

were in was sealed off.

No fresh air was getting in, and their oxygen was ticking down.

If a rescue team didn’t arrive soon, they were both going to die.

He wanted Seraphina to conserve her energy until help showed up.

Seraphina ignored him, blindly patting the ground for the leftover medical supplies.

Whatever she found wouldn’t do much, but it was better than sitting there doing nothing.

Neither of them said a word about Mortimer’s condition.

But Seraphina was a doctor; she knew that if this kept up, he wasn’t going to make it until a rescue team arrived. Werewolves might possess far more vitality and healing power than humans, but he couldn’t survive losing this much blood while crushed under that kind of weight.

“Found the med kit,” Seraphina said, the relief clear in her voice.

Acting on instinct, she fumbled in the dark and pulled out the supplies.

The bottles were distinctly shaped; she could tell what was what by feeling them.

“Mortimer, let me patch you up.”

Supplies in hand, she reached out blindly, feeling for his face.

The second her palm brushed his cheek, she realized how bad the bleeding was.

Thick, sticky blood coated his skin, dripping down the sharp angles of his face.

She froze.

“Where are you hurt?” she asked, fighting to keep the panic out of her voice.

Mortimer stayed quiet for a beat before murmuring, “Right side of my forehead.”

“Okay… I’ll stop the bleeding first, then clean the wound.”

Despite her best efforts, her voice shook.

“Sera, I’m fine. Don’t worry. We need to sit tight and wait for rescue.”

He tried to soothe her, but his shallow breathing made his voice waver, and the exhausted black wolf inside him let out a faint

whine.

“I’m not worried,” Seraphina muttered, her hands moving without a pause.

She had no idea how much time had passed. She only knew it was getting harder to breathe, the oxygen in the cramped space

dwindling.

Relying on touch, she managed to bandage his head.

The exhaustion caught up with her, and her breathing grew heavy and labored.

“Sera…”

Mortimer’s voice shook now; his strength was fading.

“I’m sorry. I might… have to leave you alone… in here again.”

He struggled to keep his eyes open.
