Chapter 466 Planning a Birthday Amidst Pain
Isabelle’s words carried a thoughtful weight.
Anthony opened his eyes, his gaze fixed somewhere in the middle distance.
After a long silence, he finally said, “You have a point.
“If I held a birthday party for him, would you come?” she asked.
A party would inevitably draw a crowd.
And it wasn’t just about celebrating Damian alone anymore.

If Anthony hadn’t told her about that day, she might have planned a simple, happy celebration. But now, the occasion felt laden with something else–solemn, significant.
Isabelle’s confidence in her plan wavered. This was delicate territory.
Anthony didn’t answer.
A dense plume of steam rose from the clear kettle on the counter–the water was boiling. She turned the heat down to a simmer.
“By the way,” Anthony spoke up abruptly, “about that vinyl record you asked me to look for… I probably can’t help with that. But you could ask your other contacts. Someone in your circle might have a lead.”
Isabelle paused. She felt a pang of disappointment–first about the party, and now this. Was he pulling back?
Anthony’s gaze drifted toward the window. A figure flashed in his mind–Daisy. He’d just remembered his suit jacket was still with her.
Diana had mentioned she’d tried to retrieve it for him, but Daisy hadn’t handed it over…..
That was… interesting. What was she playing at?
Earlier, she’d even sent him a friend request on WhatsApp.
Anthony was still hesitating. The “Accept” button remained untouched.
“Alright,” Isabelle finally replied softly.
She didn’t take his suggestion as a hint–she simply felt he didn’t want to be involved, neither with the birthday nor the search.
She sighed inwardly. What am I going to do now?
She poured the steeped fruit–infused water into a serving pot, ready to take it upstairs.
“Ellie-”
Anthony seemed to sense his words had been misinterpreted. He clarified, “Actually, several of your friends are into collecting vinyl. You could ask around. Someone might know.”
Ask around.

He said it so casually, as if he wasn’t upset at all.
“Fine.” Isabelle suddenly shifted the subject. “If someone threw a birthday party for you, would you want one?”
Anthony froze for a good two seconds. He’d almost forgotten when his own birthday was.
“No.”
He felt he was past the age for big celebrations. He figured solitude and quiet were their own kind of peace.

“But what if it was someone you really, really cared about… and she threw you a party? Would you be happy then? Would you try to… move past the old memories?”
“You don’t just ‘move past‘ them. And besides…” I probably won’t ever have someone like that, and no one would ever want to do that for me.
He fell silent for a long moment.
“I mean hypothetically,” Isabelle pressed. She really needed to know–if she went through with this party, would Damian be hurt? Would he be angry?
There is no ‘hypothetical‘ for me.”
Fine!
Isabelle stood up and headed for the stairs.
Anthony watched her retreating back, a complex swirl of emotions tightening in his chest.
If you met someone you truly, deeply cared for… would it really change you?
Anthony knew the answer–yes, it would.
When you love someone that much, you change for them. But he wasn’t Damian. He didn’t know if Damian operated the same way.

A few days later.
Diana, freshly showered after cleaning downstairs–which had left her covered in a fine layer of dust–walked into the design studio dressed in cool, comfortable loungewear.
Evelyn and Emily were meticulously packaging garments into gift boxes, wearing white cotton gloves.
Soft, ambient music played in the background.
“When’s the new cleaning service starting?” Diana flopped onto the sofa, hugging a cushion with a look of utter exhaustion. “The boss is now officially reduced to head janitor.”
“In a couple of days, I heard. Bonita says she’s fantastic–and a great cook, too,” Isabelle said, setting the pot on the coffee table and pouring Diana a tall, cool glass.
“Better be true.” Diana mumbled, hauling herself up to join the packaging team.

“Heard we had a big inquiry this morning.” Isabelle mentioned casually.

“Yeah, haven’t accepted it yet. The client says she knows you. Wants two custom gowns. I told her you weren’t taking personal commissions this year, but I saidd check if you’d make an exception.”
“Knows me? Who?”
Usually, anyone who knew Isabelle knew Diana too–it wasn’t like Diana wouldn’t recognize a mutual acquaintance.
“Lydia Hawthorne.”
“Lydia Hawthorne?”
“Mm–hmm.” Diana watched Isabelle’s puzzled expression. “Ring any bells?”
Isabel e ran the name through her mental roster. She truly didn’t know anyone by that name.
“No.”
“Then I’ll politely decline,” Diana said.
okay.”
Diana muttered under her breath, “These days, everyone claims to ‘know you‘ just to get the head designer. Why don’t I get that kind of clout? I’d love to be someone’s special request”
“You’ll have a whole year to be the star while I’m out. Every project that comes in will be yours. Happy now?” Isabelle teased.
Diana gave a wry smile. “Is it the same, though? Even if you step back to have the baby, most clients will still be coming for the ‘Isabelle‘ brand. Who’s going to notice there’s a ‘Diana‘ climbing the designer ranks?”
