Jaguar:
After the scene that had unfolded at home, my head was still spinning.
On top of that, Theodore wasn’t answering his phone or replying to any of my messages.
I was starting to feel really anxious. He should’ve been home by now.
It was already very late.
Ragnar kept asking me where Theodore was too.
I’d managed to brush him off with a lie, telling him Theodore had mentioned something about being out with friends.
We never disappeared on each other like this.
At the very least, we always left a text so the other person wouldn’t worry.
That was why I was getting angry with Theodore.
He was always doing irresponsible shit like this.
One name came to mind, and I decided to call her.
"Hello?" I said when she answered.
"Hmmm?" But unlike usual, she didn’t greet me cheerfully right away.
She was unusually quiet, only making a faint sound in response.
"Are you okay?" I asked, getting off my bed and walking over to the mirror to fix my hair.
"Yeah, I’m fine."
There was a strange weariness in her voice.
I couldn’t understand what had happened.
"Gigi, actually, I called to ask if you know where Theodore is. He left sometime this afternoon, and no one’s heard from him since. He’s not answering anyone’s calls or replying to any texts."
I kept rambling instead of giving her a chance to answer, so when she finally spoke, I went quiet.
"He came over to my place for movie night earlier."
I sighed in relief.
"Thank God. I was starting to think he’d gone off drinking again," I said, walking back to my bed and lying down.
But her silence confused me.
Usually, whenever Theodore’s drinking came up, mine did too.
There had been a time when the two of us had gotten way too caught up in partying. We drank every night.
Whenever Ragnar left for a meeting, things would get even worse, and we’d start messing around with drugs and all that shit too.
Ragnar had given us one hell of a lecture after he finally put a stop to it.
I mean, he’d caught us long before that.
He’d just been giving us enough rope to see when we’d finally decide for ourselves that enough was enough.
"Gigi, are you sure you’re okay?" I asked again.
"Yeah, I’m fine," she replied. "I’m going to get some rest too. Bye."
The moment she hung up, I shook my head and called her again.
She knew perfectly well that if she acted like this, I wasn’t going to let her sleep until she told me exactly what was bothering her.
She picked up and made the same sound as before.
"Hmm."
"Okay, Gigi. If you don’t tell me what’s wrong right now, I’m coming over," I said, jumping off the bed.
"No. You don’t need to come. I’ll deal with my problems myself."
