Gigi:
Theodore: How are you so understanding?
Well, to him, I was understanding.
To me, he was just a fool who believed everything I said, but he was a fool who was genuinely dear to me.
Me: Theodore, it’s all right. You’re a very kind person yourself. You have no idea how much comfort you and Jaguar gave me last night. It meant the whole world to me. So please don’t step away from me because of that. You mean the world to me.
As soon as I hit send, I got off my bed and walked over to the window, folding my arms as I watched Rochelle leave my mansion.
Before Theodore’s response could come, my brother stormed in.
"Guess what?" he said, a quiet smile on his lips.
"What?" I asked, turning around to look at him.
"Verity agreed to meet me. So I guess I’ll be starting the second-opportunity deal tonight."
Oliver had given me such good news that I couldn’t help rushing over and hugging him.
Verity was going to get sacrificed because of her own stupid habit of helping people.
Otherwise, she could have lived a perfectly happy life without sticking her nose into Jenna’s business.
"But you have to be careful because I’m worried Verity might have told Ragnar. That could be why they were investigating you," I said to Oliver as I pulled away from him.
"Um, no. The reason they were investigating me was because Verity has been telling the brothers that I used to abuse her. Jenna hasn’t told anyone yet. Last night, I called her again, and, well, she panicked so badly that I think she cried in front of Verity. That’s probably why Verity agreed."
Oliver looked confident, and his explanation made sense.
Otherwise, Ragnar wouldn’t have allowed Verity to meet Oliver if he knew what was going on with Jenna.
And there was no way Verity could know that Oliver was involved.
"You know what? You’re absolutely right," I said to my brother. "I completely forgot that they don’t even suspect you."
I laughed, slapping my forehead.
"And since I’ve been using a different number and a different IP address, I haven’t left a single trail they can trace back to me," Oliver said confidently. "Well, you know me. I never make mistakes," he added with a laugh.
I nodded in agreement.
Once he walked out of the room, I checked Theodore’s text.
Theodore: Well, then let’s forget about it. I don’t want to lose my friend either.
I smiled, but then my smile faded.
Those were just words.
Deep down, I felt like there had to be some kind of guilt there. There was no way there wasn’t.
The brothers loved each other too much, even when they fought.
So I had to make sure Theodore started thinking about me the way he used to. The jealousy, all of it.
I’d already noticed those feelings becoming milder.
There was only one way I knew how to bring them back.
Whenever I gave Jaguar more importance, Theodore got jealous. And the same thing happened with Jaguar whenever I gave Theodore more attention.
With that decided, I was going to use Jaguar to make Theodore jealous.
So I called Jaguar.
I deliberately waited until the afternoon, when I knew Jaguar and Theodore would be together.
