Fluffy Mates Chase Their Boss on Survival Show novel Chapter 142

Chapter 142 I Can’t Lie to Myself

“So you don’t like George?” Shane asked, searching her face.

“I like him just as a friend,” Layla answered honestly.

“But you said you didn’t like him.”

“Fine. I don’t like him that way.”

“And you don’t like Liam either?”

“Nope, not that way either.”

Satisfied, Shane pulled her back down to lie beside him. “Let’s sleep.”

Layla was really tired. She got comfortable and closed her eyes.

Right as she started to drift off, Shane nudged her side.

She sighed and opened her eyes. “What now?”

He pointed to his lips. “Kiss.”

Layla stared for a second. Then she leaned in and gave him a quick peck at the corner of his mouth. When he tried to deepen the kiss, she put her hand on his chest. “Sleep! If you don’t fall asleep right now, I’m gonna get annoyed.”

Shane finally stopped. He closed his eyes and settled in.

Once Shane calmed down, Layla found she wasn’t sleepy anymore.

Did I just lie to him?

Maybe. But I can’t lie to myself.

What is going on with me?

She questioned herself silently in her mind.

This is so messed up. How can I like one person, then start catching feelings for another, maybe even a third? That’s terrible.

But why is it wrong? I just wanna give every nice guy a home.

She came from a world that had ended entirely. Ideas like loyalty and chastity had never really mattered to

her.

Her original plan had been to claim Planet A13, sell it for a huge amount of money, then take in lots of handsome single guys between eighteen and twenty-five.

Why did I suddenly get all these weird hang-ups just because I’m with Shane?

She thought about it. George’s pretty, otherworldly face was hard not to notice.

Liam’s boyish looks made her feel protective of him.

But then she looked straight up into Shane’s cool, sharp eyes, the ones holding that fragile, almost broken softness. She wanted to kick herself.

Ugh! I’m the worst person ever!

Seriously, who even has this strong of a conscience?

This is the Beast World. I shouldn’t be this out of step with how everyone acts here.

I’m way too out of step!

What a mess I am.

In the middle of all this self-loathing, Layla finally fell asleep.

Her breathing steadied. Shane, who had been lying completely still, opened his eyes. His green reptilian pupils glinted strangely in the dark.

He propped himself up on one elbow and pressed his lips to her neck. His fangs peeked out slightly, leaving two small bite marks. A tiny drop of blood welled up, and he licked it away.

“You promised me,” he whispered against her skin. “No thinking about anyone else.”

Layla seemed to hear him, but her mind was heavy, too foggy to wake up. She couldn’t open her eyes.

Thinking the marks were too noticeable, Shane lowered his head and gently sucked at the spot.

It felt a little addictive. He moved to another spot and did the same. Then another.

His fingers softly tugged at her shirt collar. Her collarbones showed faintly in the glowgrass light.

He kissed them, carefully pulling his fangs back so only faint indentations stayed. Then he covered the little marks with soft kisses.

Layla shifted a little but didn’t wake up.

He didn’t worry that she would. His fingers traced along her collarbone. “Good girl, Layla,” he murmured.

“This is all for me.” He neatly fixed her collar back up and buttoned the top button.

‘He started to pull it up to hide the neck marks, then changed his mind and tugged it back down. “These can show. Let everyone know you’re mine.”

He stared at all the marks on her neck, and only then did his eyes shift back to normal human ones. He took her hand, pressed it to his cheek, then brought her fingertips to his mouth and nibbled them gently.

“You made a promise. Don’t break it.”

Layla let out a small, sleepy whimper in her sleep.

Shane patted her back softly. “It’s okay, Layla. Sleep. I’m right here. No one will hurt you.

Layla snuggled closer to his chest and drifted off again.

That small, trusting little movement made Shane smile. His body temperature rose a little. He glanced down and let out a quiet, frustrated sigh, then looked back at the girl in his arms.

With one arm around her shoulders and the other around her waist, he carefully turned her so her back was against him. He nudged her legs apart slightly with his own, shifted his hips forward a little, then relaxed. back, letting her legs close again.

“Mmh…” Shane let out a soft groan, closed his eyes, and stayed still.

The next morning, when Layla woke up, Shane was already gone.

Her neck felt a little itchy. She reached up to scratch it.

The yard outside was already loud and busy. From the noise, Seren and the others had arrived. She could clearly hear Seren’s voice.

Layla fixed her clothes and pushed the door open. Blaze, Seren, and Avery were already there. They were by the broken wall, mixing mud and making bricks to rebuild the yard.

Shane sat on a stool in the yard, holding a lump of clay. It looked like he’d already started making the pottery he’d promised them.
