Evening.
In a seafood restaurant near Beach Park, Su Chen stood before the private room’s floor-to-ceiling window, which offered a perfect view of the beach.
The decorative lights had just come on. Seven or eight tall light towers on the beach bathed the entire area in an orange glow, which, combined with the landscape lights, created a particularly beautiful scene.
"I never thought the beach would look so beautiful at night!"
CLICK. Just as Su Chen was lost in his thoughts, the door to the private room was suddenly pushed open, and several figures, bundled up from head to toe, walked in.
Su Chen turned to look and couldn’t help but laugh out loud at the sight of them.
"I gotta say, being a celebrity seems exhausting sometimes. You have to go out in full disguise."
The newcomers were none other than Deng Chao, Chen He, and Lu Zi. All three wore baseball caps and masks that covered half their faces, leaving basically only their eyes visible.
Unless you knew them really well, no one would be able to recognize them on the street dressed like that.
Deng Chao, who was leading the group, took off his mask and said with a hint of resignation, "I never used to wear this stuff when I went out. But recently, this app called Douyin came out. If you’re not careful and someone gets a video of you, it spreads like wildfire."
"If we aren’t careful about our privacy, we’re bound to get mobbed by fans."
"Tell me about it. Someone filmed a video of us today while we were shooting the variety show, and it ended up trending on Douyin."
"Mr. Su, you have no idea how many people were around the beach this afternoon. There were thousands, at least. We could barely get out of there after we finished filming," Chen He chimed in.
Hearing their words, the corners of Su Chen’s mouth turned up slightly. ’If I told them I was Douyin’s biggest shareholder, would they try to get me drunk?’
Once everyone was seated, Su Chen signaled to Jiang Hui that they could tell the waiter to start bringing out the food.
Jiang Hui had just stepped out of the room when Deng Chao’s phone, which was on the table, started ringing. Seeing the caller ID, he seemed troubled, unsure whether he should answer.
"What’s wrong? Is Her Majesty calling to check up on you?" Su Chen teased, seeing Deng Chao’s expression.
Deng Chao flipped his phone over to show the screen. "No, it’s a call from Reba."
"Reba..." Su Chen’s eyes lit up when he heard the name.
In the entire entertainment industry, aside from the already-married Yang Mi, Reba was the only female celebrity who really piqued Su Chen’s interest.
"Well, answer it," Chen He chimed in from the side, eager to stir the pot.
Deng Chao had noticed the change in Su Chen’s expression. With Chen He egging him on, he went ahead and answered the call.
"Yeah... we’re eating. A big seafood dinner. Chen He, Lu Zi, and I are all here."
