Greymoor Academy: I Accidentally Bonded With Four Lycan Royals! novel Chapter 231

Chapter 231: 231. Resistant

Maisie

I had just made it past the stairs when I caught the sound of something hurtling for the back of my head. I could’ve ducked if I wanted to. But I didn’t. I kept walking, and when it hit me hard enough that I knew if I weren’t wearing my hat, I’d be bleeding, I stopped.

The stone fell to the ground by my feet.

I dropped the box and lowered into a crouch, picking up the stone. And when I rose, turning around, I saw Claire standing off to the side with a group of her friends.

"Oops," she drawled loud enough for everyone to hear, feigning a pout as she blinked her faux lashes. "I was aiming for the trash. Must have aimed for a different dumpster. You know, the cheap whoring cum-dumpster kind? Yeah, that one."

Maisie nine months back would’ve ignored her.

But I wasn’t that person anymore.

I barely registered the sentries taking out their weapons as I closed the distance between Claire and I in under a second, even if I had their fancy collar on.

"How’s Corabelle doing these days?" I asked flippantly. A hush fell over the hallways and all the color drained from Claire’s face as I continued, "Does your sister still take the east trails home from combat every Thursday? Alone?" I tilted my head. "Today’s Thursday, isn’t it?"

Claire began to shake, her breaths escaping her in hushed gasps.

I smiled sweetly at her. "It would be a shame if something happened to her on that trail. People disappear so easily these days, you know?"

Then I raised the stone. "She could trip over a few stones... or fall over a cliff." Then I tsked. "It would be one nasty fall."

Collective gasps ran down the hallway as the meaning of my words sank in, and when I reached for Claire’s wrist, she let out a frightened yelp. "Here. You dropped something."

When I walked away, everyone in the hallways gave me a wild berth. No one spoke. Even the sentries who had been shoving me seconds ago didn’t lay a single hand on me. I prowled down the hallway with my head high like the murderess I was supposed to be.

I hadn’t returned to be bullied. Yes. Returned.

I wondered if it would ever cross Soren’s mind. How it had been near impossible to capture me in the last nine months. How easy this capture had been.

Sure, Mercer’s naked body had been a suitable distraction, enough to lower my guard, but I was almost offended they hadn’t figured it out yet.

I could never go back.

Didn’t mean I couldn’t let myself get caught and dragged back, while putting in enough effort to make it look like I didn’t want to. For the sake of Her Majesty’s spies, of course.

It hadn’t even been difficult to play the part. Thinking of the repercussions was more than enough reason to make it look like I hadn’t been the one who leaked my location in the first place.

Like I hadn’t been the one stalling during the attack in Utah. Like I hadn’t heard the conversation and known someone was finally coming. Like I hadn’t let Mercer run his fingers up my back and drug me.
