Raymond held her gaze, the smile on his lips only widening.

As though he hadn’t picked up on her irritation at all, he stepped forward warmly, his expression perfectly pleasant, and greeted them with easy familiarity. Warren, Claudiawhat brings you two here?

With that, he smoothly took the fruit basket from Warren’s kands, turned to set it on the bedside table, then poured two glasses of water. Here, Warren, have a seat.

His movements were natural and effortless, considerate and polished, every bit the wellmannered heir from an established family.

Warren was visibly pleased with Raymond.

He’d allways thought highly of the young man.

Coming from one of the city’s most prominent families, yet without a trace of the entitlement that sometimes came with it- humble, respectful, and clearly capable.

He’d joined his father’s company early, helped build the business from the ground up, and now could easily hold his own.

That kind of maturity and drive wasn’t common in someone his age.

With the arranged date in mind, Warren found himself looking at Raymond almost through the lens of a potential soninlawand the more he looked, the more impressed he felt.

Raymond, you’re here tooperfect,Warren said, taking a seat beside the bed. He turned to Zavier. My wife mentioned you’re recovering well and should be heading home in a few days to rest, so I thought I’d drop by. How are you feeling? Nothing too serious, I hope?

While the two fathers made conversation, Claudiawho’d been reluctantly seatedcouldn’t keep still.

She sat stiffly, as far from Raymond as the space allowed, keeping her head down the whole time. It felt like every muscle in her face was twitching with discomfort.

After Warren and Zavier exchanged a few words about recovery and health, Warren soon steered toward the real reason for his visit. Zavier, once you’re discharged, don’t just stay cooped up at home. You and Raymond should come over with Riley sometime -maybe for a weekend barbecue. We’d love to have you.

Raymond chimed in right away, his tone just pleasantly eager. That’s really kind of you and Mrs. Warren. We’d hate to impose, but since you’re inviting us so warmly, we’d be glad to join. On behalf of my dad and Riley, thank you.

Claudia had heard enough. She shot Raymond a look that could kill.

Was this guy for real? Couldn’t he take a hint?

But Raymond simply returned her glare with a faint, easy smileone that felt, to her, deliberately provocative.

She couldn’t let him keep this up.

Claudia felt if she stayed another minute, she might actually snap right in front of both their fathers

She stood up, forcing a tight smile. Dad, Zavier, please excuse us for a moment. II need to talk to Raymond alone

Warren’s smilte brightened even further, and he waved them off warmly. Of course, of course. You young folks go catch up.

Not wasting another second, Claudia’walked straight over to Raymond, grabbed his wrist without a word, and muttered, You- come with me.

Then, ignoring whatever reaction he might have, she pulled him out of the room.

They moved quickly down the quiet hospital hallway, Raymond offering no resistance as he let her lead him, that amused smile still playing on his lips.

Claudia didn’t stop until she’d dragged him to a secluded courtyard garden behind the inpatient wing.

The place was empty and quiet.

Raymond, she said sternly, getting straight to the point. Did I do something to upset you? Why are you doing this? Is it fun letting our parents get the wrong idea?

Raymond kept his hands in his pockets, looking completely at ease.

Watching her flustered and worked up, he found her even more expressive than she’d been over textand he couldn’t help letting out a low chuckle.

He lifted his eyes lazily. Why do you always assume the worst? What if I told youmaybe I really was taken with you from the moment I saw you again, and I’m just trying to make a good impression?

Taken with me?Claudia looked him up and down, her disbelief plain. Raymond, who do you think you’re fooling? We’ve known each other since we were three! Every time you wanted to mess with someone back then, you had that exact same look on your faceyou haven’t changed one bit! Did you really think I’d fall for it now?

Her blunt reply made Raymond’s smile flicker for a secondthen it returned, deeper than before.

He straightened up suddenly, dropping his casual posture, and without warning closed the distance between them.

Is that so?He leaned in slightly, his taller frame casting a shadow over her, his voice dropping to a lower, more intentional tone Maybe I haven’t been clear enough about my intentions. Maybe that’s why you can’t see how serious I am.

From that angle, looking up at him, Claudia felt a wave of unmistakable masculine presenceand her heart stumbled unexpectedly.
