How could a person change so drastically?
Nelson kept his eyes closed, his aura cool and distant. "What else? Just living the good life."
It was a brush-off. He clearly had no intention of talking about it.
Realizing he was wasting his breath, Julian scoffed and tossed his wedding invitation onto the coffee table. "The big day is next month. I expect you both to show up."
Nelson leaned forward, swiped the invitation, and shoved it into his pocket without a single glance. "I'm heading back."
His phone buzzed. It was likely Corbin's mother already running to complain to Yvonne.
He left the club, only pressing answer once he was settled inside his car. As expected, it was Yvonne.
At that very moment, Yvonne was sitting next to Lydia Thorne, watching warmly as Josie ran around the living room. The atmosphere was a picture of perfect domestic bliss.
Just minutes before the Xavier family called to complain, Yvonne and Lydia had been doting on the little girl.
Yvonne sighed affectionately. "This child has so much energy. It's time to enroll her in preschool this year. Don't be overly protective, Lydia. Now that she's back, she needs to adapt to a normal environment here."
"Mom, I'm not keeping her sheltered. Things were just complicated overseas, but I'm already looking at schools."
"Good. Have Nelson help you pick one out. He cares about Josie, so don't hesitate to keep him involved. It'll stop him from wandering off the right path again."
Lydia lowered her eyelashes, smiling gracefully. "Nelson is actually the one picking out the schools."
Yvonne's eyes softened as she reached out to Josie. "He's finally acting like a proper father."
Right as she finished her sentence, the phone call from the Xavier family came through.
Yvonne's brow furrowed tightly as she listened. Corbin had been rushed to the emergency room, and it sounded incredibly serious.
The woman on the other end of the line sobbed hysterically, eventually bringing up Yvonne's eldest son, claiming Yvonne should understand a mother's pain.
