Without wasting another second, Yardley pulled out his phone to call Sylvia.
But Veronica slammed her hand down on his wrist, stopping him.
"What exactly is going on between you and Sylvia?" she demanded, her eyes narrowing with deep suspicion and judgment.
"Why do you panic the second her name is mentioned?"
"She and Kane have a son together. Isn't it better if they stay a family? I don't understand why you're throwing a fit over this!"
Yardley's already dark expression turned pitch black.
"I don't have the time or patience to explain this to you, Veronica."
"But let me be perfectly clear: under no circumstances will I let Kane take Sylvia to Myanor!"
"I am not going to stand by and watch her be dragged into a monster's den!"
Gritting his teeth, he shoved Veronica roughly out of the way. He stormed out of the office and made a beeline for Sylvia's desk.
When he got there, the space was entirely empty. Only her corporate ID badge sat abandoned on the keyboard.
Yardley's breathing turned shallow and frantic. He immediately dialed Sylvia's number.
At that exact moment, Sylvia was inside her villa, zipping up her suitcase.
Kane had already sent a car and his men to wait outside. He was impatient, having called her multiple times to hurry her up.
But as Sylvia stood there with her bags packed, the crushing reality of what it meant to leave Bay City and spend the rest of her life on the run with Kane hit her. Her courage completely evaporated.
She was paralyzed by conflict.
On one hand, her hatred for Scarlett and Julian fueled a desperate need to escape and plot her revenge. On the other hand, the thought of becoming Kane's captive bird—forced to look at his terrifying face every day, forced to endure his twisted demands—sent violent shivers down her spine.
