Arthur Sr. had indeed called them in to interrogate them about the divorce.

Stella knew how notoriously strict Grandpa was with Jarrod. If Jarrod spoke first, he would undoubtedly face the brunt of the old man's wrath.

Remembering how accustomed Jarrod looked to his grandfather's harsh reprimands in the living room previously, Stella quickly interjected before he could speak.

"Grandpa, I was the one who brought up the divorce."

It wasn't exactly a lie. She had initiated the conversation, and Jarrod had simply instructed the lawyers to draft the agreement.

Arthur Sr. shot Jarrod a glare before turning back to Stella, clearly unconvinced.

"You brought it up? Stella, why on earth would you ask for a divorce?"

Stella completely understood his skepticism.

The Quinn family relied heavily on the Fullers. They usually tripped over themselves to stay in his good graces, so why would they willingly sever ties?

Stella kept her voice as steady as possible. "Grandpa, I caused some trouble for Jarrod. Besides, the contract we signed before the wedding is nearing its end. I just figured ending things a little early made the most sense."

"Nonsense!" Arthur Sr. boomed authoritatively. "What kind of trouble requires a divorce to fix? And that contract is just a meaningless piece of paper!"

"But..."

"Are you mute?!"

Refusing to let Stella say another word, Arthur Sr. directed his furious glare back at Jarrod. "Whose idea was this divorce?!"

Jarrod's expression remained perfectly stoic. "I had the lawyers draw up the papers."

"You ungrateful bastard!"

In a fit of rage, Arthur Sr. grabbed his hot teacup and slammed it down on the tray, sending scalding liquid flying!

Though he hadn't moved a muscle until that second, Jarrod reacted with lightning speed, shielding Stella with his arm to ensure she didn't get burned!

The protective gesture stunned Stella, and she turned to stare at him.
