Jarrod's expression remained glacial as he glanced at her without saying a word.
Perhaps confused by the familiar way Stella addressed him, Yvette turned to Jarrod with a gentle smile. "Jarrod, who is this?"
Jarrod looked completely disinterested in speaking.
Stella took the initiative, smiling politely. "I'm currently Jarrod's wife." Though, she added silently, that would change as soon as the divorce was finalized.
"Oh, so you must be Stella! Grandpa Fuller has mentioned you before!"
Yvette's face lit up with a warm, approachable smile. "I'm Yvette Walsh. I grew up with Jarrod, so I'm practically an older sister to him. He helped me out of a massive bind recently, and when I heard he was in the hospital, I had to come see him."
Yvette extended her hand toward Stella warmly. "I've heard so much about how beautiful and capable Jarrod's wife is. Seeing you today, the rumors were absolutely true."
Stella reached out and gave her hand a brief, polite shake. "Thank you for the compliment, Miss Walsh."
"Oh, there's no need to be so formal! I'm a year older than Jarrod, so please, just call me Yvette!" she said with a bright laugh.
Stella nodded, offering a polite "Yvette," before setting her food container down.
"I'll leave you two to catch up. I have some business to attend to, so I'll be going now."
"Stella, you came all this way to bring breakfast. Don't rush off so soon."
Yvette's smile never wavered. "Jarrod hasn't eaten yet. You should stay and convince him to have a few bites."
Stella's gaze flicked to the bedside table. The meal she had ordered for him last night sat entirely untouched.
Clearly, he had zero interest in eating anything she provided.
"That's alright. I really do have pressing matters at the factory. I can't stay."
Stella turned to leave. Yvette opened her mouth to urge her again, but Jarrod, who had been silent this whole time, suddenly let out a cold scoff. "Let her leave!"
