Stella fought back her tears and nodded, thanking Professor Thorne in a hoarse voice for taking the time to see Logan before politely saying her goodbyes.

The moment she stepped out of the room, her shoulders slumped, and the tears she had been holding back finally spilled over.

She covered her face and leaned against the cold wall, her heart shattering into a million pieces.

Knowing she was in a public hallway, she allowed herself a brief moment to break down before dragging her heavy legs toward the elevator.

She had snapped at Mrs. Higgins that morning, and she knew she'd have to deal with the housekeeper's nagging the second she got back. Exhausted and emotionally drained, Stella sat numbly in the hotel lobby.

Nearly an hour later, she had managed to pull herself together.

She walked toward the restrooms at the back of the lobby. After washing her hands, she splashed some cold water on her face.

Staring at her pale reflection and empty eyes, she tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear.

As she reached for a paper towel, she suddenly realized she was missing an earring.

It was the pair Logan had given her!

Back then, they had walked past a beautiful jewelry stall. The vendor was incredibly skilled, crafting unique and gorgeous pieces, and Stella had been completely captivated.

Knowing she loved white magnolias, Logan had picked out a pair of small magnolia bud pendants for her.

She had specifically dug them out this morning, knowing she would see Logan today, hoping that maybe, just maybe, seeing them might trigger a memory.

Even if it was just a one in a million chance.

But now, there was only one left. She had no idea when or where the other one had fallen off.

She had only put them on right before heading to the hotel, which meant it was highly likely she dropped it in Professor Thorne's suite.

Stella quickly dried her hands and rushed out of the restroom.
