His Plump Mate (Book 1: The 'His' Series) novel Chapter 686

Sinclair POV

After the councilman’s visit, I started backing up all the pack servers again, just in case. I didn’t want to leave anything to chance. I didn’t see anything suspicious, but that doesn’t mean there is a sleeper somewhere else.

I’m finally out of the bedroom. Adrian made sure our scents were heavy on each other. I am still confined to the pack house, as is Angelo. He was happy to see me emerge, but the rest of the family was teasing.

“Glad we didn’t need the rescue squad,” Reid said.

Adrian smugly said, “My mate only needs me to save her, brother.”

Reid started laughing. “Is that right? She looks relieved to be around people.”

Aiden started laughing and joining the fun. “Reid, last time this happened, we told Sinclair to pick a safe word to call for help.”

I’m holding Irene in my wrap, while Adrian is holding Phoenix. Mom and Dad are laughing at the exchange. For the first time in over a month, I feel a sense of normalcy again.

“You’re not leaving again, are you?” Mom asked.

“No. I think I am good for now,” I said as Irene started babbling and touching my cheek with her tiny palm.

Angelo leaned over. “Are the brothers always like this?”

I smiled. “Oh yeah. Sometimes they are worse. Don’t get it confused, though; the women are just as silly.”

“Yeah, they are! I heard about what you, Thalia, and Kaia did to the guys at the mall,” Dad said. “I have to admit, that was a funny story.”

Angelo looked at the table expectantly. Thalia and I laughed. We started explaining that day and everything we did. Aiden and Adrian scowled playfully at us. Thalia’s eyes were filled with amusement, and I laughed so hard at the memory that I hiccupped.

Angelo’s face was highly amused, but there was a sadness there. I’m not sure why, but it feels familiar. I feel like I have seen that look on him before.

“So Angelo, have you decided if you want to join training to become a warrior or scout?” Aiden asked.

I looked at Angelo immediately. “Warrior or scout?”

The tips of his ears turned slightly pink. “Yeah, I don’t want to stay a tech forever. Besides, two things can be true. I can be a tech, a warrior, or a scout, right? I mean, aren’t you both?”

“Yes, but it takes a while to really learn how to defend yourself, let alone be a warrior and defend a pack. A lot of preparation goes into mastering either role,” I said. “I support whatever you want, Angelo. It’s going to take work either way you decide to go.”

Angelo smiled. “I know. I want to put in the work. I am thinking a scout would be up my alley. If you think about it, being a tech and scout could go hand-in-hand together, right?”

Aiden grinned. “Yeah, it can. However, you still have to train like a warrior regardless. As a scout, you have to be ready at a moment’s notice to fight back. Plus, you have to have the skill set to be a spy essentially. Your tech skills will prove useful, but you will be three roles in one.”
