HIS REGRET (Ex-Husband wants Me Back) novel Chapter 957

"No," Lydia said softly. The look in her eyes showed she couldn't believe what her husband had just told her. "That can't have happened, can it?"

Cale remained standing there, frozen, his phone hanging limply in his hand. Daven's final words kept echoing through his mind, refusing to disappear no matter how hard he tried to push them away.

"Cale," Lydia called again. "Tell me it's all a lie!"

Lydia kept staring at her husband's face without blinking. Her heart pounded so violently it hurt. She still hoped that what she had just heard was nothing more than a misunderstanding. But the expression on Cale's face shattered that hope in an instant.

"Naomi," she whispered softly.

The name felt unbearably heavy as it left her lips.

Without another thought, Lydia immediately threw off the blanket covering her body. Her fingers hurriedly pulled out the IV needle that was still inserted into the back of her hand. Clear fluid dripped out along with a small bead of blood that immediately soaked the tiny bandage there.

"Lydia!"

Cale flinched. He immediately turned around and rushed toward his wife.

But Lydia had already swung both legs over the side of the bed. The moment her feet touched the floor, the weakness she had been suppressing overwhelmed her. Her vision blurred, while the pain in her shoulder and waist shot through her with such intensity that it stole her breath.

Her body pitched forward. Fortunately, Cale caught her before she could fall.

"What are you doing?" he asked in a panic as he held Lydia tightly to keep her upright.

"I have to go there." Lydia's voice trembled. She tried to pull away even though she had almost no strength left. "Cale, I have to see Naomi."

"No." The answer came so quickly that Lydia lifted her face to look at him.

"Why? I have to know how Naomi is, Cale," she repeated softly.

"You can't even stand."

"But... Naomi. That girl's condition..." Lydia stammered. Tears had already begun to well up in the corners of her eyes again.

Cale urged Lydia to sit back down on the edge of the bed. Once his wife was seated, he took Lydia's hand and gently stroked it. "I know you're deeply worried about her. But just this once, please think about your own condition first."

Tears slipped down Lydia's cheeks again. "If only we hadn't gone to the campus that day..."

"Hey," Cale interrupted her gently. "There was nothing wrong with your plan to go to the campus. If anyone is to blame, it's me. Why didn't I assign more..."

Lydia slowly shook her head. "No. You already did your best."

Both of them closed their eyes tightly, trying to hold back the emotions raging in their hearts.

"Please, get some rest until you're truly feeling better. After that, I'll take you to see Naomi."

In the end, Lydia agreed. Just as she was about to speak again, a soft knock sounded at the door, followed by someone entering after it slowly opened.
