The moment they stepped into the UK Branch, the receptionist sprang up to greet them.
As they walked past, the receptionist's eyes lingered on Virginia's retreating figure for a solid few seconds.
She had worked here for three years, and this was the very first time she'd seen the Boss bring in a female companion who wasn't a business partner...
Ducking her head, she immediately blasted the news into the corporate group chat.
Partly for the pure gossip value, and partly to warn everyone not to get on this stunning woman's bad side.
"About last night..."
Once inside the elevator, Virginia, having agonized over it the entire drive, finally broke the silence.
"You're welcome." A sliver of amusement danced in Archer's eyes, though his face remained as cool and indifferent as ever.
Virginia choked on her words. Finding no graceful way to press the issue, she clamped her mouth shut.
At that moment, the elevator chimed and stopped on the eighth floor.
"I have work to catch up on. You can wait in the lounge, or have Nora Reynolds show you around."
Nora was an American woman she had met at the party yesterday.
With a sweet face and a gentle voice, she was one of Archer's secretaries at the branch.
Virginia had zero interest in his corporate affairs, and since the opportunity presented itself, she'd much rather tour the office. She hummed an agreement and headed toward the secretarial pool to find Nora.
Nora brought her to the lounge first. She had barely taken a seat when the young man with the accent from last night practically sprinted over, coffee mug in hand.
"Ms. Caldwell? Did you have a good time last night?"
"It was nice," Virginia nodded, offering a polite but distant smile.
"Then why do you look a little worn out today?"
Before Virginia could explain, the blonde woman pushed through the door. Her eyes lit up the moment they landed on Virginia, and she plopped down right next to her, hooking their arms together.
"Ginny! What brings you here?"
Several more people trickled into the lounge, all familiar faces from last night's gathering.
They crowded around her, chatting over one another as if catching up with a long-lost friend.
She wanted to say something to change the subject, but her treacherous mind decided this was the perfect time to flood her with uninvited memories.
It was shortly after they got married.
She had gradually realized that Archer was hyper-controlled in everything he did.
Whether eating, moving, or even sharing their most intimate moments, he maintained an ironclad restraint.
There was only one exception... He had braced his arms on either side of her, looking down at her, struggling to hold himself back as veins bulged from his muscular forearms all the way to his distinct knuckles.
Whenever she was on the verge of breaking, he would pause, panting heavily as he rested his forehead against hers to let her catch her breath.
She had begged him not to hold back, but he never listened.
Yet, ironically, it was that exact ferocious restraint that drove her wild.
There was one time... the night he finally let loose and found his release over and over again, taking her five times.
But even then, Archer never truly seemed to lose control.
Or perhaps, that was the absolute closest he had ever come to crossing that line.
