His Wicked Obsession (Archer and Virginia) novel Chapter 79

The little boy with chubby cheeks saw Virginia and Cindy and immediately pressed his face against the window, waving his little hands frantically. "Auntie! Auntie! Get in!"

Cindy's eyes lit up. Not only did she refuse Virginia's outstretched hands, but she also wrapped her arms tightly around Archer's neck.

"Let's go. I'll take the kids to get something to eat." Archer's tone was casual. His face still held that icy expression, but a fleeting smile flashed through his eyes.

Without looking at Virginia, he carried Cindy toward the car door.

Virginia frowned slightly. She was just about to refuse when she looked up and saw the absolute anticipation in Cindy's eyes.

The little girl's mouth was pressed in a tight line, not daring to say a word, just staring at her pleadingly.

Toby chimed in to help, his sweet voice calling out, "Auntie, come get in! We're going to eat something yummy!"

"..."

The refusal on the tip of her tongue was swallowed dryly.

Virginia opened the car door and got in with Cindy, not sparing Archer another glance the entire time.

Archer didn't say anything either, focusing entirely on driving.

The car was very quiet, save for the constant chatter of the two children.

Before long, Archer parked the car in front of an upscale private club downtown. He had booked a private room in advance, boasting massive floor-to-ceiling windows that overlooked half the city's skyline.

The two kids sat together. They didn't eat much, spending most of the time talking and occasionally laughing so hard they leaned back and forth.

Archer sat across from them. Although he didn't say anything, he would lower his head and patiently pick every tiny bone out of Cindy's fish.

His movements weren't exactly expert, but on a man as cold and distinguished as him, it had a unique charm.

Watching this from the side, Virginia's fork paused in mid-air.

Snapping back to reality, she lowered her eyes, took a bite of beef tenderloin, and said nothing.

...

"Dr. Caldwell, there's a woman here to see you. She says she's... your mother."

As soon as she finished speaking, Madeline appeared, dressed in an immaculately tailored grayish-blue cashmere coat, her hair styled in perfect curls, her makeup flawless.

In Virginia's memory, she always looked like this.

Polished, respectable, without a single flaw no matter the occasion.

"Mom."

She called out, and a small corner of her heart stirred.

This was the first time Madeline had ever come to her workplace...

"Find somewhere we can talk." Madeline swept her gaze over the waiting patients, her voice suppressing her fury.

Virginia didn't know what was going on, but she still led her to the breakroom next to the consulting rooms.
