His Wicked Obsession (Archer and Virginia) novel Chapter 85

At that exact moment, in a fan forum boasting over thirty thousand members, an anonymous user uploaded a photo.

The picture showed a pale, battered Chloe lying in a hospital bed, her arm wrapped heavily in bandages and her eyes visibly red and swollen.

The caption contained a single line:

"I was hit by a car. I only wanted to talk things out with Virginia. Why would she do this to me..."

The comment section instantly exploded.

"Who? Who did this to you?"

"Don't tell me it's that homewrecker Virginia again! It's been five years, and she's still not letting Chloe go! She actually tried to kill her in a car accident!"

"Does anyone know which clinic that bitch Virginia works at? I'm going to go throw paint at her door!"

The post was relentlessly retweeted deep into the night, the view count multiplying by the thousands.

...

The next morning, Virginia wore a light camel cashmere coat with a loosely draped scarf. With her canvas tote over her shoulder, she arrived at the commercial building where her clinic was located—only to find a massive crowd swarming the entrance.

She faltered, a flicker of confusion crossing her eyes.

The mob consisted mostly of younger people. Some were holding up their phones to snap pictures of the clinic's sign, while others were glued to their screens, comparing something.

They certainly didn't look like patients.

Suddenly, a girl with bright pink hair broke away from the pack. She shoved her phone screen toward Virginia, confirming the match before screaming, "That's her!"

"You bitch! How do you still have the nerve to show up to work! After putting Chloe in the hospital, how do you sleep at night calling yourself a therapist?"

Virginia stumbled back a step. The suffocating horrors of five years ago flashed violently through her mind. The blood drained from her face, and her grip on her tote bag tightened until her hands began to shake.

"I don't know where you're getting your information, but the truth is not what you think," she said, fighting to maintain her composure.

A teenage boy shoved his way to the front, shoving his phone camera aggressively into her face.

Breathe.

Once wasn't enough. Do it again...

Clinging to the last shreds of her sanity, Virginia regulated her breathing while forcing her rigid hand to dig into the side pocket of her tote.

"...If you don't leave right now, I'm calling the police."

Her voice sounded raspy, almost unrecognizable to her own ears.

"The police?" The pink-haired girl sneered, her face twisting with malice as she violently swatted the phone out of Virginia's trembling hand.

The device hit the concrete, landing face-down with a sickening crack.

"You tried to run Chloe over, and you're the one calling the cops? Do it! Call them! Let them lock a murderer like you up for good!"

Another guy in a baseball cap stepped directly into her path, holding his camera less than eight inches from her face.
