Hitched & Hitched Again: A Comedy of Marital Mayhem novel Chapter 1834

"We did everything we could."

Tarquin and Lowell froze. "!"

A doctor saying they did everything they could was essentially a death sentence.

Lowell's eyes widened in sheer disbelief. "Wh... what do you mean?!"

Benjamin's expression was bleak.

"The trauma is too extensive. It's not just the external wounds; the internal damage is catastrophic. Modern medicine can't reverse this."

Lowell's voice shook violently. "Is there really no other way?"

Benjamin shook his head. "None."

Lowell refused to accept it. "Not even a sliver of hope?"

"...Barring an absolute miracle, he won't make it past three days."

Lowell staggered back, turning toward the wall. He slammed his fists into the plaster over and over again before breaking down into gut-wrenching wails.

A thirty-year-old man, standing in the middle of a hospital corridor, sobbing until his lungs gave out.

They say real men don't cry, but when the grief cuts that deep, no one can hold it back.

Tarquin held Elysia tight, his eyes rimmed with red!

Clinging to his last shred of sanity, his mind raced for a solution.

If even Elysia couldn't save him, standard medicine was useless. The only remaining hope was the old healer in the mountains!

But Axel's body was shutting down; he would never survive the brutal journey deep into the wilderness.

And the old woman couldn't make the trek down to the city!

Even if she somehow managed it, it would take days for her to reach them, time Axel simply didn't have!

The final sliver of hope vanished into thin air.

It felt as though someone had siphoned the very soul out of Tarquin's body. He buried his face in Elysia's neck, his vision blurring with unshed tears.

There wasn't a single badge in that precinct who didn't know the legend of Julian Rhodes!

He was their idol, the untouchable hero they all aspired to be!

Today, the entire division had been strapped into a psychological rollercoaster.

One second they were in heaven, the next, hell!

When the memo hit that Julian had a surviving son, the precinct was completely stunned.

Then, when Axel's photo hit the projectors, the entire room erupted. Officers leaped to their feet, cheering, slamming desks, and roaring with joy... They were completely unhinged with excitement!

Some of the veterans openly wept, completely overwhelmed.

Civilians could never understand the sheer euphoria coursing through those halls.

Looking at Axel, it was like looking at a ghost. Like their fallen hero had finally returned!

However, the celebration was brutally cut short when the follow-up report came in: Axel was on his deathbed.
