I Fell for the Man Who Ruined Me, Then He Forgot He Ever Loved Me Back novel Chapter 243

Jorrod rapidly scanned the room. His long legs ate up the distance in seconds, bringing him directly to the unconscious woman slumped over the table. He leaned down and seemed to whisper something to her.

Sienna didn't even lift her head. She just lazily raised an arm and slapped Jorrod dead center across the face. *Smack!*

The sharp sound echoed like a gunshot in the dead silent room.

Mindy watched in absolute, paralyzed horror. Her heart nearly stopped beating.

She waited for the cold, untouchable CEO to erupt. Instead, the man simply frowned, grabbed Sienna's offending hand to check her palm for a couple of seconds, and then stripped off his heavy overcoat to drape it over her shoulders.

He leaned down again, sliding one arm behind her back and the other under her knees, effortlessly lifting her securely against his chest, cocooned in his coat.

He turned, ready to walk out.

Mindy had no idea where she found the courage, but she threw herself in his path. "M-Mr. Vaughn. Sienna's boyfriend is coming to get her. A... a message was already sent..."

It was one thing if Rena texted the wrong number, but what if her boyfriend actually showed up, only to find some other man had carried his girlfriend away? How was anyone going to explain that?

Jorrod finally shifted his terrifying gaze to the vaguely familiar employee.

He recognized her as someone who often walked alongside Sienna.

They were likely good friends.

This was the first time Mindy had ever stood face-to-face with the big boss. His stare felt like an invisible net tightening around her throat. She looked down, swallowing hard, terrified to move but stubbornly refusing to step aside.

Jorrod lowered Sienna slightly, letting her weight rest entirely against him.

He pulled a white phone from his pocket, swiped the screen, and shoved it in Mindy's face.

"Are you referring to this?" he asked coldly.

Mindy tentatively leaned in. When she read the screen, she sucked in a sharp breath.

[Hubby, I drank way too much at the dinner. I'm so dizzy. Can you come pick me up?]

Sent time: A little over ten minutes ago.

Her pupils shrank to pinpricks. She snapped her head around to look at the paralyzed Rena standing behind her.

The air froze over. Mindy didn't know where to look. She dug her nails into her palms. Beside her, Rena miraculously found a shred of accountability. She hung her head and whimpered, "Mr. Vaughn... I... I sent it..."

Jorrod leveled a lethal glare at her.

The absolute lack of warmth in his eyes made the room temperature plummet. Even though Mindy had done nothing wrong, the sheer, suffocating pressure made her scalp prickle in terror. She kept her eyes glued to the floor.

"Name."

"Rena Young..."

Jorrod issued his decree with terrifying calm. "Apologize to Sienna on Monday. Then report to HR."

The ruthless, simple command smashed down on them, sending an icy dread straight into their bones.

By the time his shadow vanished from the hallway, the rest of their coworkers returned through the half-open door, laughing and glowing after fixing their makeup in the bathroom.

Only then did Rena snap out of her paralyzed state. Belatedly realizing her career was over, her shoulders began to violently shake as her eyes flooded with tears.

The incoming women dropped their smiles instantly. Before anyone could ask what happened, Rena sniffled loudly, grabbed her purse, shoved past them, and bolted out of the room.
