I Fell for the Man Who Ruined Me, Then He Forgot He Ever Loved Me Back novel Chapter 278

George had acted on pure impulse; he never actually intended to hurt anyone.

It was just that they already had bad blood, he was the elder, and he was currently nursing a bad leg.

That mocking comment about his lack of strength had provoked him right where it hurt, leading to this terrible mistake.

For the first time, George kept his mouth shut and didn't argue back.

Marcus continued, "Regardless of the extent of the injuries, your actions have caused significant distress to the other party. My client also requires further medical observation. During this period, you are not allowed to leave the hospital. That will take about two weeks, which conveniently gives you time to properly rest your leg."

Two weeks. Exactly the amount of time George was originally scheduled to be hospitalized.

It was too coincidental. Too precise.

If he didn't know firsthand just how cold-blooded and selfish Jorrod was, George would have almost believed the kid had deliberately provoked him into lashing out just to force him to stay in the hospital.

George slapped his uninjured thigh with a sigh. Thank God he was a grown man; otherwise, he might have started developing some twisted Stockholm syndrome from all this overthinking.

In another hospital room.

Fingers encased in medical gloves gently probed the wound. "Lie flat and whatever you do, don't move."

Jorrod lay shirtless and face down on the examination table. His entire back was rigid as the scalded area spread menacingly down from his shoulder blades.

The burn wasn't massive, but it was violently red and swollen. Under the stark, clinical lights, several patches of skin had already peeled away, exposing a weeping, raw dermis oozing clear fluid.

"Almost done," the doctor comforted him, taking sterile tweezers from the tray to debride the dead skin.

He couldn't help but shoot Jorrod another look. He had assumed this was just some pampered, delicate rich kid, but surprisingly, the guy had a high pain tolerance.

Once finished, the doctor tossed the contaminated medical waste into the biohazard bin.

Jorrod pushed himself up from the bed slowly. Sitting on the edge, he reached for his shirt draped over the chair. Biting back the pulling agony across his shoulders, he slid his arms through the sleeves.

The doctor instructed, "For the next few days, you need to come into the hospital to have the dressing changed twice a day, for a full week."

That was far too frequent. Jorrod paused his movements and turned his head. "Can I do it at home?"

The doctor glanced at him from the corner of his eye. "The burn is on your back; you can't reach it yourself. This requires a meticulous touch. Got a girlfriend? She could help you do it."

Jorrod fell into a profound silence. He focused on dressing himself, quietly and methodically fastening every single button on his shirt.
