I Fell for the Man Who Ruined Me, Then He Forgot He Ever Loved Me Back novel Chapter 346

"Sienna..."

"Hmm?"

"I won't let you shed another tear over anyone else. I won't let anyone make you suffer or walk all over you. Whenever you look back, I will always be standing right behind you."

"No matter how far you try to push me away."

His voice was slow, carrying an overwhelming gravity.

Why the sudden romantic monologue?

Sienna honestly wasn't a fan of these dramatic, sweeping declarations. In movies, a speech like this usually meant the guy was going to be killed off two scenes later.

She gave a soft hum to let him know she heard him.

A few minutes later, Jorrod helped her down from his lap.

After stepping out of the car, Jorrod casually wrapped his fingers around her wrist. The warmth of her skin was perfect—not cold, but actually radiating a faint, pleasant heat.

He let go.

Just as Sienna turned to walk away, he gently caught her wrist again, pulling her back. While she was still momentarily stunned, Jorrod leaned down and pressed a soft kiss against her forehead.

A profoundly cherished kiss, entirely devoid of lust.

-

When Sienna walked upstairs.

Her parents were still on the sofa—one watching TV, the other scrolling on a phone.

Since she had been gone for a while, they both paused what they were doing and looked over at her.

George raised an eyebrow. "Were you having a deep conversation with the dumpster?"

Sienna quickly hurried toward her bedroom, trying to hide her guilt.

Her mother's voice trailed after her, "Put more clothes on next time you go out."

The next morning, after seeing his daughter off, George drove toward the factory.

The morning sun was blindingly harsh, piercing straight through the windshield. Squinting against the glare, his thoughts drifted back to what his daughter had said the night before.

He really did want to quit.

Miles strolled around to face him. "You were so full of yourself on your first day. What happened? Mitch gets the boot and suddenly you've lost your nerve?"

George let out a cold scoff. "Lost my nerve? If upper management finds out how you've been running this place, you'll be packing your bags in no time."

"Oh, I'm so terrified." Miles laughed like he had just heard a fantastic joke. "I've got friends in high places. Things just work out for me. You, on the other hand, will always have to call me 'Boss'. I'll be stepping on your neck for the rest of your life, and Lillian will spend the rest of hers regretting she chose the wrong man."

"Betrayal stings, doesn't it? Too bad. You should really learn from your good buddy Arthur. Smarten up and learn how to kiss my ass."

Miles let out a harsh, grating laugh. His voice, having deteriorated with age, was even more raspy than it had been in his youth, grating against the ears like a croaking toad.

George sneered. "Friends in high places? More like fellow slimy bottom-feeders dragging you through the mud."

Miles's face instantly went black. A vein popped in his forehead, but then a twisted smile stretched across his face. "You know, there is one way I might let you off the hook. I hear your daughter grew up to be a real stunner. What was her name again? Sienna? If you introduce her to me and she shows me a good time, I might just start calling you my father-in-law."

George slowly stood up, towering over the man with a lethal glare.

"Speaking of Sienna..." Miles wasn't done pushing. "I wonder if she's a *sinner* in the sheets, or someone I'll be *seeing* in my bed tonight?"

Before the sentence was even finished, George threw a brutal punch, sending Miles stumbling backward, exactly like he had years ago.

And just like years ago, Miles was no match for George's sheer size and strength. Clutching his bloody mouth with a scrawny, trembling hand, he pointed a finger at George and swore he would make him pay.
