At those words, Jorrod finally shifted his gaze.
Miles froze mid-sentence. The man's dark eyes swept over him with an unhurried, terrifying weight, starting from his head and slowly moving down to his feet. Finally, the gaze bypassed him entirely, landing on the group by the door—specifically on George, who was practically being restrained by the other men.
Without Jorrod doing a single thing, Miles involuntarily shivered. It felt as though all the oxygen had been sucked out of the room, leaving a heavy, crushing weight on his chest.
It must just be the draft from the cracked window, Miles rationalized.
Jorrod's lips curled into a faint, chilling smile. "It's been a while since I last visited. Has Apex Manufacturing been converted into a detention center?"
The GM broke out in a cold sweat.
"Hmm?" Jorrod sat up straight, casually tossing the production report onto the desk. "Should I requisition some handcuffs for you? What if just holding him isn't enough and the prisoner tries to escape?"
Miles bristled at the arrogance of this young hotshot.
The GM heard the razor-sharp sarcasm in Jorrod's voice. His brow knotted tightly, his temples throbbing with sheer panic.
And yet, the clueless idiot next to him had to speak up.
"Watch how you talk to us!" Miles snapped.
The GM finally snapped, roaring, "Watch how *you* talk! Get the hell out! Can't you see Mr. Vaughn and I are in the middle of a meeting?!"
Miles was instantly furious.
In terms of hierarchy, his uncle would definitely take his side. This GM was just a son-in-law, an outsider to the true family power. How dare he tell him to get the hell out?
"I'm not letting today go! Look at my face! He practically knocked my teeth out, and you're telling me to get out?"
The workers standing nearby knew Miles was well-connected, but they hadn't realized he was arrogant enough to scream at the GM.
George hadn't even looked toward the desk the entire time.
It wasn't until he heard the title 'Mr. Vaughn' that he suddenly froze.
He snapped his head up in shock.
His expression was relatively calm, but the worker felt an overwhelming, explosive hostility rolling beneath those pitch-black eyes.
He completely forgot his next sentence.
The man's flat, icy voice broke the silence. "What exactly did he say?"
The worker swallowed hard, nervously shifting his gaze to the GM. "He... he told George to hand his daughter over to him. And he made a disgusting comment about her name, Sienna. He asked if she was a sinner in the sheets, or if he'd be seeing her in his bed tonight."
"Bullshit!" Miles didn't deny saying it, but he refused to accept the severity. "I just asked a harmless question! Did anyone die? Did she lose a piece of flesh? George is the one blowing this completely out of proportion!"
"Get out," Jorrod commanded.
Hearing the calm tone, the GM breathed a sigh of relief, quickly waving the workers out so they could resume business.
But Jorrod clarified. He meant everyone.
Everyone, except Miles.
