I Fell for the Man Who Ruined Me, Then He Forgot He Ever Loved Me Back novel Chapter 383

It wasn't until this moment.

That George truly felt like his daughter had been stolen away.

Even after returning home, his heart was still pounding, as if he were the one who had just been proposed to.

No, no, George shook his head. It still wasn't confirmed if it was actually a proposal.

He forcibly pulled his daughter aside and whispered, "Did Jorrod just propose to you?"

Sienna nodded. "Didn't you just give him your blessing? He only dared to do it because you agreed."

George took a deep breath, feeling a little lightheaded. "...When did I ever agree?"

Sienna laid out the evidence.

The very first thing Jorrod had brought up was a relationship with marriage in mind, and the terms of his agreement were all focused on post-marital arrangements.

George recalled the conversation. No wonder he kept feeling like something was off. But it had been one wave after another—after the agreement came the luxury car, and after the luxury car came the priceless antique. The man hadn't given his brain a single second to process any of it.

Even if it was a proposal, George grabbed his daughter's wrist, staring at her bare fingers without a ring in sight.

He wasn't greedy for material things, but a ring was a crucial symbol of commitment.

"I'm going to give that jade ring back to him and make him get you a proper engagement ring instead."

Sienna laughed and pulled her hand back. "Dad, he had a ring. I just didn't say yes, so I didn't take it."

"You didn't say yes?"

"I put him on probation."

After speaking, Sienna turned her head, her gaze landing on the man sitting casually on the sofa, frowning as he spoke on the phone.

Perhaps sensing her intense stare from across the room.

Jorrod paused and looked up.

As their eyes met, his handsome brow relaxed. His deep, dark eyes locked onto hers, and after a moment, he gave her a helpless, gentle smile.

Jorrod didn't answer. He sat on the edge of her bed, tilting his head to gaze quietly at her with ink-black eyes. A faint red mark was pressed into her delicate cheek, likely from leaning against her pillow.

She looked incredibly adorable and remarkably grounded in reality.

Watching her, a smile tugged at the corners of his lips. He reached out, his thumb gently rubbing over the crease on her right cheek.

Mindful of her parents in the nearby room, he deliberately lowered his voice. "I wanted my girlfriend to ring in the New Year with me."

Speaking of which, Sienna hadn't had the chance to ask him, "Won't your family complain if you don't go back home for the New Year?"

Jorrod's thin lips curved into a faint smile. "As long as I send a message saying I'm alive, it's fine. Going back to the family estate and staying at my own place makes no difference. No one actually cares."

"How could that be?" Sienna leaned closer to him, naturally resting her palm over the bulging veins on the back of his slightly chilled hand. "Families always look forward to reuniting with their children for the holidays."

Reunion was an entirely foreign concept to Jorrod.

He didn't believe that forcing a group of blood relatives to sit together in dead silence for dinner just to check off a box could ever be called a reunion.
