When Sasha heard Finn had come to visit, her eyes lit up like fireworks. Her whole demeanor shifted into a vibrant flutter, completely ignoring her bandaged ankle as she limped excitedly to the door to greet him.
Seeing his imposing figure, her voice dripped with pure sugar.
"Finn, what are you doing here?"
Finn set the gifts on the entryway console and walked into the living room, taking a seat.
Sasha hobbled over and sat down right beside him, her gaze glued to his face as if she could devour him whole.
"You got hurt. I came to check on you," Finn stated, his tone aggressively neutral.
Sasha acted as if she couldn't hear the chill in his voice. A blissful smile bloomed across her face as she eagerly busied herself pouring him a drink, her movements exaggeratedly attentive yet natural.
"You really shouldn't have gone out of your way, Finn. I'm practically back to normal! You're always so busy; it's awful making you drive all the way out here."
Finn didn't respond. He simply watched her.
Under the warm glow of the lamps, Sasha looked effortlessly demure, her movements delicate and refined. By all appearances, she was the textbook definition of an innocent, sweet-natured girl.
But as Finn sat there, staring at her, he felt absolutely nothing but a terrifying emptiness.
He found it impossible to reconcile the radiant smile in front of him with the venomous, manipulative stranger pulling strings in the shadows.
She used to be so incredibly pure.
"Don't bother with the drink," he finally said.
But Sasha played deaf, keeping her head bowed over the glass, her voice drifting like velvet.
"I love making things for you. There's nothing I'd rather do."
She bit her lower lip, perfectly executing the shy, blushing maiden routine. Her eyelashes fluttered, casting soft shadows over her flushed cheeks.
Anyone else would have instantly melted, completely incapable of giving her the cold shoulder, perhaps even overwhelmed by the urge to protect her.
But Finn felt entirely numb.
