I Walked Away Seven Years Too Late But Right on Time novel Chapter 166

"I'll handle it," Gavin smiled warmly at his mother.

Gillian was furious. All that talking, and it had gone in one ear and out the other.

"Suit yourself." With that, she turned around and followed the boarding line.

Watching his parents and grandmother disappear through the gate, Gavin immediately turned on his heel and strode rapidly toward the exit, dialing Sophie's number as he walked.

He called several times, but it kept going straight to voicemail.

Sophie had bought a new phone the very day Eileen smashed her old one. It couldn't be broken, and aside from being in meetings, she rarely turned it off.

A sudden wave of panic washed over him.

When Sophie had sent the picture of the paternity test, her accompanying text felt noticeably defeated.

He had replied, "I'll talk my parents around, don't worry. I'll come straight back to you after dropping them off."

She only replied with one word: "Okay."

Speeding the entire way back, he made it to her apartment in record time, but his persistent knocking went unanswered.

Her phone was still unreachable, so he quickly dialed Sarah.

The news hit him like a ton of bricks: Sophie was at the hospital.

Without asking for details, Gavin sped to the hospital. He finally spotted Sophie in the waiting area outside the third-floor operating room.

Her hand was wrapped in thick gauze, her face ghost-white, and she sat staring blankly ahead. Sarah, sitting beside her, spotted him first and waved him over.

Gavin rushed up and crouched beside Sophie, gently cradling her right hand. "How did you get hurt? What happened?"

Sophie didn't answer. Sarah looked equally troubled.

"It was Eileen. That psycho suddenly charged at her and pushed her into the street."

Gavin snapped his head up, scanning the waiting area, but Eileen was nowhere to be seen. Two rows ahead, a middle-aged man turned around, frowned briefly at Gavin, glanced at Sophie and Sarah, and then turned his back again.

It was Harold.

Ignoring him completely, Gavin turned his focus back to Sophie. "Are you hurt anywhere else?"

But Luke... Luke had taken the full force of the speeding motorcycle. He had been thrown backward while bearing her entire weight. How horrific must the impact have been?

When she finally scrambled off him, the sight of blood pooling from the back of his head nearly made her black out.

Her first instinct was to call 911, but her purse had been flung into the middle of the street and crushed by a passing car. Her phone was destroyed.

"I called them!" Harold had rushed over, dropping to his knees beside Luke. None of them dared to move him. They just kept calling his name, but he remained completely unresponsive.

The motorcyclist, groaning as he picked himself up, ripped off his helmet and began cursing furiously. "I was driving perfectly fine! Why the hell did you jump into the middle of the road?!"

He pointed at Sophie, who was sitting on the pavement in shock. "What the hell is wrong with you people? Do you have a death wish?!"

Then, he pulled out his phone and dialed 911, followed by the police.

"Luke has been in there for an hour..." Sophie's voice cracked, and she couldn't finish the sentence.

"He's going to be alright."

But the words of comfort felt incredibly hollow, and Gavin felt his own heart sinking by the second.
