I Was His Wife, Then His Widow, Then No One's But My Own novel Chapter 183

Nora tried to stand, but her legs felt like lead. Her knees buckled, and she collapsed back into the chair.

She gripped the edge of the table tightly, her knuckles turning white, as her consciousness was slowly swallowed by the drug.

Gideon stood up from across the table, walked around to her side, and grabbed her waist, hauling her out of the seat.

When his hand pressed against her side, a visceral shudder ran through Nora. She tried to push him away, but her shove was as weak as a breeze against a brick wall. She couldn't break free.

Gideon leaned down close to her ear, his breath brushing against her skin, sending a wave of revulsion through her. "Ms. Newman, you had a lot to say just now, didn't you? Why so quiet all of a sudden?"

Sienna had already reached the door and pushed it open, peeking down the hallway before waving at him. "Alright, come on. Take the fire stairs. There are cameras by the elevators. Hurry up, Gideon, don't dawdle."

Gideon half-dragged, half-carried Nora as he followed her into the stairwell. In the dim lighting, only the green exit signs cast an eerie glow.

Nora was hauled down the stairs, her heels clicking against the concrete steps, before Gideon finally scooped her up into his arms.

She wanted to scream, but all that escaped her throat was a faint, muffled gasp.

Gideon glanced down at her, cursed under his breath, and asked Sienna again if there would be any fallout from this.

Sienna walked ahead without looking back. "What fallout could there be? I'm doing this for her own good. Once it's done, she'll have no choice but to be with you."

Gideon felt instantly reassured. This woman had just been looking down on him, claiming she didn't need friends right to his face. Soon enough, he'd show her exactly who was in charge.

His hand slid slightly lower down Nora's waist, his grip tightening.

Sienna led them through the fire exit near the underground parking garage to the service elevator lobby, deliberately avoiding all the security cameras along the way. She had clearly mapped this out beforehand.

The receptionist hastily handed over the room key.

Sienna stepped up from behind, offering a polite smile to the receptionist. "That's my brother and his wife. They just had a little lovers' spat, no need to worry."

Watching the elevator doors close, the receptionist couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong. The woman didn't look drunk at all; she looked like she had been drugged.

But his sister was right there with them. What could possibly go wrong?

Barely half a minute after the three of them entered the elevator, the revolving doors of the hotel lobby were pushed open.

Xander Harrison strode in, his sharp black suit impeccably tailored. His assistant jogged to keep up behind him.

The event organizers were hosting a banquet here tonight, and he was an invited guest.
