I Was His Wife, Then His Widow, Then No One's But My Own novel Chapter 212

Standing beside him, Seraphina Shaw hadn't uttered a single word the entire time. Her gaze swept back and forth across the group, her brow furrowed.

Nora truly seemed to have changed.

Last time, she still had some lingering sympathy for Cassie, but now, she appeared genuinely furious.

Xander stood two steps behind Nora, glaring at Finnegan with an icy intensity that was completely different from their last encounter.

Standing there, Finnegan looked like a complete outsider. His gaze was fixed on Nora with such raw intensity that even Seraphina found it glaring to watch.

Cassie was sobbing uncontrollably. Through her tear-blurred vision, she saw Bonnie resting quietly in her father's arms, not crying or making a fuss. That only made Cassie feel even more wronged.

Why was she pretending to be so innocent? It was all Bonnie's fault that her mother was yelling at her.

Yanking her hand out of Nora's grasp, she spun around and threw herself into Seraphina's arms. She buried her face in Seraphina's dress, her shoulders shaking violently as her muffled voice rang out.

"I don't want my mom anymore! I want you, Seraphina. Let's go over there, I don't want to look at them!"

Seraphina leaned down and gently patted the girl's back, her voice dripping with artificial sweetness. "Okay, don't cry, Cassie. I'll take you over there to watch the sugar painting. We won't look at them."

Though she comforted the child, a smug, mocking sneer flashed in her eyes as she watched the drama unfold.

Now, Cassie would surely hate her mother for good.

She turned around and walked over to Bonnie, her voice softening. "Bonnie, my daughter was wrong to push you just now. I apologize on her behalf."

Bonnie shook her head, forcing a mature little smile onto her face. She didn't want to make things hard for Nora. "I'm okay, Nora. I didn't fall. Felix caught me. Did that little girl misunderstand something? I didn't mean to steal her mom. You're just my friend, not my mom."

Her voice trailed off toward the end, as if she were terrified of saying the wrong thing.

Heartbroken by the girl's sweetness, Nora gently pulled her into a warm hug and patted her back. She then stood up and took her hand. "Alright, let's not talk about that anymore. Didn't you want to make a Handmade Rabbit Lantern? I saw an instructor at the crafts section who still has open spots. If we don't hurry, we'll miss it."

Bonnie's little face immediately lit up, the lingering shock of the incident heavily washed away by the excitement of making a lantern.

She nodded vigorously, clutching Nora's fingers as she turned to call out to the men. "Dad, Felix, hurry up and follow us!"
