Nora nodded and was about to take off her shoes when she paused. What did he mean by too?
Bonnie had already kicked off her shoes and bolted into the living room, sweetly calling out for her grandparents.
Nora took a couple of steps toward the living room, looking up to see an elegant older couple seated on the sofa.
The older woman was dressed in a flawlessly tailored navy-blue dress, her hair swept up into a chic, low bun. The older gentleman wore a traditional buttoned jacket, casually holding a teacup.
These were no ordinary grandparents. She recognized them instantly: Sebastian Harrison and his wife, Genevieve, the former heads of the Harrison Group and absolute legends in the city's business elite.
Nora froze in the entryway. She looked down at Bonnie, who was covering her mouth and giggling, her bright eyes shimmering with mischief.
"Dad, Nora, I'm gonna go upstairs first!" Bonnie announced, before scampering up the staircase with her new dress.
Nora turned to Xander, her tone apologetic. "I'm so sorry, Mr. Harrison. I had no idea you had company. I shouldn't intrude—I'll get out of your hair."
Xander reached out to stop her, a faint, teasing smirk playing on his lips. "In such a rush to leave? Do you have somewhere else to be?"
Nora opened her mouth to say she actually didn't have anything going on, but the words felt too awkward to say out loud. She just stood there, rooted to the spot.
Sebastian rose from the couch. He was taller than he looked in photos. Despite his silver hair, he was robust and full of vitality. When he smiled, he gave off a warm, refined first impression—nothing like the ruthless capitalist who had dominated the business world for decades.
Sebastian waved a hand dismissively, letting out a hearty laugh. "What are you apologizing for? We're the ones who didn't give you a heads-up. Come in, come in! Don't just stand in the doorway. I have a couple of questions for you. That data model on drug tolerance decay curves—I've been dying to discuss it with you since I read it. Now I finally have the chance."
Somewhat flattered by Sebastian's enthusiasm, Nora swapped her shoes, walked into the living room, and took a seat on the side sofa.
She instinctively glanced at Xander for a cue, but he just leaned against the armrest of the sofa with a relaxed smile. "Make yourself at home. No need to be so tense—you've been here plenty of times."
At that, a deeply meaningful smile flickered in Genevieve's eyes.
Been here plenty of times? It seemed there was definitely something going on. She didn't mind that Nora had been married before; they could probably start setting a date for the wedding.
