I Was His Wife, Then His Widow, Then No One's But My Own novel Chapter 297

Felix looked surprised. "Is everything okay? Are you not coming in tomorrow?"

Nora explained that she would be attending her mother's memorial. Felix instantly brightened for her, knowing this meant a potential reconciliation with her estranged father.

"Go handle your family stuff. Don't worry about things here," Felix said warmly. "And buy a daisy for her for me."

Nora felt an overwhelming sense of relief, as if she could forgive the entire world—everyone except Finnegan.

When she got back to her apartment, she immediately started packing an overnight bag. Going back to the Newman Estate wouldn't be a simple day trip, and she had a feeling her father had other motives for calling her back.

Halfway through packing, her phone buzzed with another text from Benedict: Bring Cassie with you.

Nora froze. Bring Cassie?

Would Cassie even agree to go?

Her father didn't know she had already signed away her custody rights. He must simply be missing his granddaughter.

Nora suddenly found herself trapped in an impossible situation.

Her father had finally opened the door. She couldn't afford to trigger another rift. Outside of Cassie, he was the only blood relative she had left in the world.

She sat on the floor, agonizing over the decision, before ultimately deciding she had to bring Cassie along. Her mother and brother's memorial had to go perfectly. She would explain the custody situation to her father another day.

Heart pounding, Nora dialed Cassie's number. Since their massive blowout, Cassie had completely shut her out.

The phone rang endlessly. Just as Nora was about to hang up, the call finally connected.

It was the nanny, Martha Gable. "Ms. Newman? Is that you?"

Nora double-checked the caller ID. It was definitely Cassie's number. "Martha? What's going on? Where is Cassie?"
