I Was His Wife, Then His Widow, Then No One's But My Own novel Chapter 310

Nora let out a cold laugh, dropping her voice so only he could hear. "Since you showed up uninvited, didn't you bother to reserve a seat for yourself?"

Finnegan completely ignored the biting sarcasm. "We're guests. And as guests, it's up to the host to arrange our seating. Or do you expect us to sit right on the memorial altar?"

Faced with his relentless audacity, Nora's expression instantly darkened. "You—"

Before she could finish, Xander strode over from a short distance away, seamlessly wedging himself between them. A sharp, cynical smirk played on his lips.

"If you sit at the memorial altar, Mr. Fletcher, aren't you afraid of seeing things you shouldn't when midnight rolls around?"

Finnegan's face darkened the second he saw Xander. "This is a family matter. We have nothing to say to an outsider, and it's certainly not your place to interfere."

Xander smirked coldly, then turned to Nora. "He claims this is a family matter?"

Nora exchanged a tense glance with Xander. Because of her secret plans, she couldn't clarify everything to him right now. Exhaling deeply, she chose not to respond directly.

Swiftly changing the subject, she announced, "Let's all head inside and take our seats."

With that, she walked past them, heading further into the estate. Xander froze, clearly taken aback that she had dismissed the moment without defending him.

A mocking grin spread across Finnegan's lips as he shot Xander a smug look. "Mr. Harrison, sometimes it's best to know your place. If you end up humiliating yourself, don't blame me for not showing you mercy."

Finnegan trailed confidently after Nora. Xander's expression cooled. Pushing up his gold-rimmed glasses, he remained silent and smoothly followed them inside.
