I Was His Wife, Then His Widow, Then No One's But My Own novel Chapter 314

Seeing their sudden intimacy, a flare of jealousy ignited in Finnegan's chest. "What is the meaning of this, Nora? This is a private family matter. Why are you dragging an outsider into it?"

Xander took a menacing step forward, his aura radiating a suffocating coldness. His dark eyes locked onto Finnegan. "A family matter? Engaging in filthy acts right in front of a deceased relative's portrait, shattering it in the process—and you have the audacity to call that family business? Nora was wronged, and I am protecting her. You clearly have no respect for the dead and are using family ties as a pathetic excuse to cover your tracks. Let me be clear, Frederick. I will not turn a blind eye to this. You will apologize and compensate her immediately, or I will personally visit Alastair Fletcher and ask him if this is the standard of The Fletcher Family's upbringing."

The threat of Xander marching to the Fletcher patriarch sent a jolt of panic through Finnegan. If Alastair found out, it would be no different than broadcasting his shame to the entire elite circle.

What he had just done was completely indefensible. He could not afford to let this escalate.

Looking at Nora hiding behind Xander's broad back, a restless irritation gnawed at Finnegan.

When did she and Xander get so close? Why was a famously ruthless and cold-blooded billionaire standing between them, demanding justice on her behalf?

Could there be something deeper going on between them?

Finnegan lowered his head, masking his reluctance. "I'm sorry, Nora. This was my fault. I was wrong, and I apologize."

Nora let out a cold, internal scoff. Now he was trying to play the polite brother-in-law card, using familiarity to soften the blow.

She shifted her icy gaze to Seraphina, who was hovering silently nearby. "This wasn't entirely your fault alone, Mr. Fletcher."

Finnegan frowned sharply at the implication. He was a man; taking the blame and apologizing should have been enough. Why was Nora relentlessly targeting Seraphina?

They were both women. Why did Nora have to be so vindictive?
