I Was His Wife, Then His Widow, Then No One's But My Own novel Chapter 333

Cassie rubbed affectionately against her, suddenly realizing how good her mom smelled. She hugged Nora tight. "Mom, do you have time tomorrow?"

Without missing a beat, Nora replied, "No, why?"

Cassie lowered her head in disappointment. "Oh, it's nothing."

For a fleeting moment, she had wanted to go shopping with her mom. But since her mom was busy, she let it go.

Halfway through the project, it started raining. Nora glanced at the gloomy sky; the weather wasn't looking good.

If she didn't leave now, the storm would only get worse.

Nora picked Cassie up and set her on the sofa. "I have to go now, Cassie. Martha can help you finish the rest. If I don't leave now, the rain is going to be pouring down soon."

Cassie opened her mouth, initially wanting to ask her mom to stay. But then she remembered Seraphina was coming over. If her mom stayed, the two of them would definitely run into each other, and her mom would make things difficult for Seraphina.

Besides, she still needed to share the pastries with Seraphina. She couldn't let her mom stay. Feigning sadness, she hugged Nora's waist.

"Okay, well, be careful on your way back."

Nora gave a soft hum and left.

Cassie saw her out to the door. The rain was coming down harder now.

Nora stood at the entrance, trying to hail a ride. She had taken a cab here instead of driving herself, a decision she was deeply regretting now.

As the downpour intensified, it became nearly impossible to find a car in this isolated upscale neighborhood.

Nora took shelter under a bus stop awning, growing anxious as the sky steadily darkened.

Just as she was about to brave the rain to walk to a busier intersection, a sleek, black Mercedes-Maybach slowly pulled up to the curb.

The window rolled down, revealing Xander Harrison's handsome, chiseled face.

Nora froze. Xander looked at her. "Get in."
