Bonnie held Nora's hand and puffed her cheeks. "Let's go inside too, Nora."
As soon as they entered, Bonnie's familiar, demanding tone rang out as she naturally ordered, "Mom, I want to eat handmade meatballs! The kind with mushrooms in them, just like you made for me before. I want to eat them right now. Please go make them for me."
Before Nora could respond, Bonnie quickly tugged on her arm, adding maturely, "Actually, Nora, you've been working all day. You must be exhausted. You don't need to go out of your way to cook. We can just have the housekeeper make something."
Cassie's face instantly darkened. This Bonnie was truly manipulative. Right after saying she wanted meatballs, she immediately played the sweet card and said nothing needed to be made.
"Why? If you aren't going to eat, I still want to. The meatballs Mom makes are delicious. When Mom makes them for me later, you better not eat any."
Bonnie looked at Nora, seemingly caught in a tough spot, and pressed her lips together, not knowing what to say.
Nora rubbed her head, her gaze softening. "It's okay, Bonnie. You love meatballs too. It works out perfectly. I'll make a larger batch. You two go play on the sofa for now."
Watching her mother act so gently toward Bonnie while keeping a cold face toward her, Cassie felt a surge of grievance.
However, she didn't take the initiative to walk over and hold Nora's hand. Instead, she marched over to the sofa, sat down, and waited for Nora to come coax her.
Nora didn't say anything and simply turned to walk into the kitchen. Bonnie's eyes lit up, and she immediately raised her hand. "I want to go into the kitchen and help too! I know how to wash vegetables."
Cassie turned and glared at her. What a kiss-ass. Hmph!
