Zelda Vance heard the voices and peeked out from the adjacent office. "Nora? Why are you back so soon?"
Nora recounted the situation with the seminar to her mentor's wife.
Zelda frowned, her smile fading. Seeing Nora looking so defeated broke her heart, and she hurried over to comfort her. "Oh, it's fine. Good things take time. Look at your pale face; you haven't slept well in days. You look exhausted. A week will fly by, so use this time to catch up on some rest."
Seeing the genuine concern in Xavier and Zelda's eyes, the lingering disappointment in Nora's chest finally eased.
She really had no reason to feel so devastated over a simple postponement. She had prepared everything she needed to; it was just a week. She could wait.
"I know. Thank you, Xavier, Zelda. I'll get back to work now."
Xavier frowned. Seeing her bounce back so quickly still left him feeling a bit uneasy. "You should head home and get some proper rest today. Sorting out that data can wait."
Nora smiled and shook her head. "I still have Annabel Atkins's data to organize. I'll be fine."
With that, she said her goodbyes to the couple and headed toward her own office.
Zelda and Xavier exchanged a meaningful look.
Zelda sighed heavily. "I just hope she's actually okay."
Xavier nodded. "Don't worry. The kid isn't that fragile."
...
Meanwhile, at the hospital.
Seraphina Shaw had just finished her checkup and was walking out with her medical results. She had been feeling a bit off lately and decided it was best to get looked at.
As she passed the emergency department, a flurry of hurried footsteps echoed down the hallway. Several medical staff sprinted past, pushing a gurney desperately toward the ER.
