By the time the police flooded the room, Seraphina was paralyzed by shock. Slumped on the floor with Nora's blood coating her hands, she kept muttering the same phrase over and over, "I didn't mean to."
The officers quickly restrained her. She thrashed weakly, but it was far too late to matter.
Finnegan collapsed beside Nora. Seeing her ghostly pale face, he reached out with trembling hands to support her, but the moment he brushed her shoulder, she let out a muffled groan, a sheen of cold sweat breaking out across her forehead.
Cassie sobbed hysterically in her arms, utterly traumatized as her little hands clutched desperately at Nora. "Mom!"
Nora comforted her with a faint, breathy voice. "Don't be scared, baby. Mom's fine."
Finnegan's voice shook violently. "Nora, let go of her. Let me see the wound."
He had never lost his composure like this in his life. Suddenly, rapid footsteps echoed from the entrance.
Xander Harrison practically flew into the room, followed closely by his men. His usually immaculate hair was a mess, indicating his frantic rush. His gaze swept past everyone in the room and locked instantly onto Nora, his eyes widening in shock before he darted forward.
"Get out of the way."
Xander dropped down in front of Nora and immediately clamped his hands around the wound to staunch the bleeding. He barked at Aaron standing behind him, "Bring the med kit!"
Finnegan stayed frozen on his knees on the other side, his eyes bloodshot, his mouth opening and closing without producing a single sound.
After applying emergency pressure and a temporary dressing, Xander didn't hesitate for a second—he scooped Nora up in his arms.
