Nora slowly opened her eyes. She stared blankly at the red-rimmed eyes of the man before her, her gaze devoid of any emotion.
"Yes, I have."
The moment those words hit him, Finnegan's eyes widened in sheer disbelief. It was as if he had been struck hard in the chest. He stumbled backward, all his movements freezing mid-air as a single tear escaped and rolled down his cheek.
"Did you forget the vows we made? You were wearing a wedding dress in that church, and we swore in front of everyone to be together forever. To never part. That was our promise. How could you break our vows, Nora?"
By the end, Finnegan was practically screaming, glaring at her with wild eyes as if she had committed an unforgivable sin.
"Did you forget? How dare you marry someone else after swearing your life to me before God!"
Nora watched him quietly for a long moment before letting out a soft laugh.
She suddenly found it all incredibly hilarious. "Never betray."
She had no idea how Finnegan could utter those words so effortlessly. He had faked his death, lied to her for five years, paraded around with another woman, and now he had the audacity to lecture her about betrayal?
Who was the real traitor here? Was it her? Had she ever thought of another man during those five years she spent mourning him in total isolation?
Or had she run off to marry someone else while she was left to endure endless torment from The Fletcher Family?
"Finnegan, exactly when did I ever betray you?"
Finnegan's lips trembled, but not a single sound came out.
