Now that he had thought it through, he wouldn't obsess over these meaningless things anymore.
He pushed himself off the floor. His legs were completely numb from sitting for so long, and he stumbled a few times before managing to steady himself.
Looking around, he noticed the desk was completely bare. There were no signs of life in the room at all. It suddenly dawned on him that Frederick had likely been living this kind of bleak existence for the past five years, just waiting for a chance at revenge.
And now, he was handing that opportunity directly over to him, returning the entire truth to Nora as well.
He picked up his phone and saw over a dozen missed calls on the screen, all from Liam Mercer and Adelaide Fletcher.
He sent a quick text to his mother, assuring her that he was fine and telling her not to worry. Then, he called Liam back. The call was answered almost instantly. "Mr. Fletcher, you finally picked up! You didn't come home all night, I was about to call the cops. Where are you? How are you feeling? Has your fever broken?"
Finnegan parted his dry lips, his voice still carrying a raspy edge. "The fever is gone."
It hadn't actually broken, but he had no idea how to explain his current whereabouts. If he blurted out that he had just seen his brother who had been presumed dead for five years, and that the entire truth was about to blow up, how could he possibly explain that to his assistant?
He let out a heavy sigh, ultimately settling for a simple, "I'm fine. I'll be back shortly. By the way, has there been any movement from Seraphina recently?"
Liam paused. Seraphina and Finnegan hadn't interacted in quite some time, and he clearly hadn't expected his boss to suddenly ask about her.
