"Clan Chief Skyreach, why summon us so urgently?"
Ronan Thunderfall's voice rolled through the hall like muffled thunder.
The lord of Holy Light Palace sat on Corvin's left.
He looked like a kind white-haired elder, but his eyes were sharp as blades. Holy light surrounded him, and beneath that glow hid a faint chill.
"Speak, Clan Chief Skyreach," the lord of Holy Light Palace said calmly. "The Nineteenth Firmament has not been peaceful lately. Since you gathered us yourself, this cannot be a small matter."
Corvin looked around the table.
Then he said, "Blackraven is dead."
Silence fell.
Ronan's brows snapped together.
"Blackraven? Your top assassin?"
"Yes." Corvin nodded. "Jared killed him."
"Jared?"
Ronan's expression changed. "That Golden Immortal Level One cultivator?"
"Him."
"Impossible."
Ronan stood, lightning crackling violently around his body. "Blackraven was Golden Immortal Level Eight. Jared is only Level One. How could he kill Blackraven?"
"Those are the facts," Corvin said coldly. "Blackraven's life-soul token shattered. His divine soul was destroyed. Jared is still alive, and he is heading toward the Southern Wasteland Demon Marches."
The hall sank into a heavy silence.
Every celestial leader present turned grave.
They all knew Blackraven's strength.
A Golden Immortal Level Eight assassin was one of the best experts of the Golden Crow clan.
For such a person to die to a Golden Immortal Level One cultivator was terrifying.
"I said that boy could not be allowed to live."
Ronan paced back and forth, anger burning through his voice. "At the last meeting, I told you we had to kill him before he grew. You all wanted to wait for him to walk into a trap. Wonderful. Now even Level Eight experts cannot stop him. In a few months, will Level Nine experts be useless too?"
"Clan Chief Thunderfall, calm down."
The lord of Holy Light Palace remained composed. "Blame can wait. We need a plan."
Ronan breathed heavily and sat back down.
"A plan? What plan is left? If Level Eight cannot kill him, what else do we have?"
"We unite."
Corvin's voice carried authority. "We gather our forces and surround him together. However strong he is, he is still one man. With so many factions moving at once, can we still fail to kill him?"
The hall went quiet again.
Unite.
That word sounded simple.
But the celestial forces of the Nineteenth Firmament were not friendly with one another.
The Golden Crow clan, the Thunder God clan, Holy Light Palace, and the other powers had fought over territory, resources, and benefits for years. Their grudges were not shallow.
Asking them to join hands against one Aureate Way cultivator was easy.
Making them do it was another matter.
"An alliance is possible," an old man in a blue-green robe said. "But who commands it? How are the spoils divided? After Jared dies, who gets the Golden Tome and the chaotic force? If we do not settle these points first, this alliance is empty talk."
Corvin looked at him.
"All of that can be negotiated. The Golden Tome and chaotic force can be shared. Spoils will be divided according to contribution. As for command, I will lead temporarily. Does anyone object?"
"Why should you lead?"
Ronan immediately spoke up. "The Thunder God clan also has peak Golden Immortal Level Eight experts. Why should the Golden Crow clan command everyone?"
"Because Jared killed one of my people," Corvin said. "The Golden Crow clan moved first and suffered the greatest loss. Also, do you have a better choice?"
Ronan opened his mouth.
