“What if I refuse?”
Even though Stella knew Evan had reached his limit, she still asked the question coldly.
What would he do if she refused?
Their eyes met.
“Yara has to be taken away from your brother.”
Evan placed particular emphasis on the words your brother.
He was making it clear that Stella could not simply claim this had nothing to do with her.
Aaron was involved.
And because Aaron was her brother, Evan believed that made it her problem too.
Stella let out a mocking laugh.
“So you’re planning to force me?”
Evan said nothing.
He only looked at her, the struggle in his eyes deepening.
“I don’t want it to come to that.”
Unless he had no other choice, he did not want to take things that far.
“But you’ve already considered it.”
“I’ll make sure you’re safe.”
“You just said he’s my brother. What danger could I possibly be in?”
The sarcasm in Stella’s voice sharpened.
Now he was promising to keep her safe?
The words were almost laughable.
Evan rose to his feet.
“Do you need to change?”
He was no longer trying to reason with her.
He had clearly made up his mind to take her back to Eirden.
“No.”
Evan held out his hand.
“Then let’s go.”
Just like that, the decision was made.
Whether she agreed or not, Evan had decided for her.
Thinking back, Stella realized she had never truly been allowed to make her own choices around him.
It did not matter what she wanted.
Evan would do whatever he had decided anyway.
Stella remained where she was.
