Chapter 245 Public Fury
Monica grabbed Bianca and pulled her toward the door, saying, “There’s no ‘but’ about it. From now on, you listen to me, Mom. I’ll take care of you for the rest of your life!
“In this world, I’m more reliable than any man!”
After returning to the estate, Agnes sat down at her computer and started typing nonstop.
During the two days she went to Wenmark to find Josh, every major headline in Grandridge was about the Hales being investigated and shut down over fake drugs causing deaths.
Some media outlets even used sensational headlines like “Elite Family Exposed for Using the Poor as Test Subjects” to stir outrage.
The internet was flooded with condemnation.
Outside the Hale Enterprise building, crowds led by victims’ families gathered in protest.
The entrance was smashed to pieces, littered with eggs, rotten vegetables, and broken glass.
Agnes casually clicked on a video. In it, an elderly woman held a protest sign with red letters on a white background.
Facing the camera, she cried so hard that her voice broke.
“My daughter was only 30! They said this medicine could save her life! Sob…
“They killed my daughter! Sob…”
Then another elderly woman appeared, supported by others, clutching a bottle of medicine as she shouted at the camera, her voice trembling.
“My husband and I were together for 50 years, and just like that, he’s gone… My husband… He died so tragically…
“How am I supposed to live alone now?”
A young woman holding a child rushed toward the camera, crying uncontrollably.
“My husband was still so young. He was the backbone of our family. The doctor said he could’ve lived at least ten more years.
“But because of these fake drugs, he was gone in less than a year. And they lied to us, said it was imported medicine.
“You heartless monsters feeding on blood money!
“Give me back my husband! Give my son his father back! Sob…”
There were many more videos, but Agnes couldn’t bring herself to watch them. Just this one had already left her gasping.
Even if Calvin didn’t end up in prison, it was clear these victims’ families wouldn’t let him off.
Agnes stared at the contract documents Bianca had sent over on her computer.
She examined them one by one, carefully, but couldn’t find a single flaw.
Was Dad really set up, or… did he knowingly profit from something this dark and become one of the perpetrators himself?
Agnes closed her eyes, unable to keep going down that line of thought.
Agnes rejected him. “Thanks, but what the Hales are facing isn’t just a money issue. Five lives were lost.
“No matter how you investigate, that responsibility won’t just disappear.”
Raymond lowered his gaze, looking at her gently. “Mr. Hale isn’t that kind of person. There has to be a way to fix this.”
Agnes replied, “This is serious. You shouldn’t get involved. I’ll figure something out myself
Raymond suddenly stepped closer, his voice low, emotions barely restrained.
“Why do you keep pushing me away every time? Why do you insist on facing everything alone?
“Even if we’re not married anymore, we’re still friends. Let me do this with you, okay?”
Agnes met his sincere gaze. “But-”
Raymond cut her off. “No ‘but. I told you before, I owe you too much.
“Let me do something for you. Don’t refuse me. At least then, I’ll feel a little better.”
Without waiting for her answer, Raymond gently pushed her into the room and said, “Get some rest/Don’t overthink it. Good night.”
“Hey…” Agnes stepped toward the door, but he had already gone downstairs.
Early the next morning, Agnes contacted the most renowned lawyer in Grandridge.
